Guest guest
Hi all, One of the very real initiatives the ICMR could do is to research the anecdotal evidence of why so many young Indians are MDRTB (Multi drug resistant) patients. My sense, from dozens of conversations, is that they have inappropriately used a variety of antibiotics over many years, some of them adherence to dosages was not adequately monitored, completion of prescribed quantities was not carried through either through ignorance, or apathy or both. Also dosages were often inconsistent with the severity of the condition. Many were dispensed without medical supervision, and very little follow up occurred. Taking medicine requires skill on the part of prescriber and patients alike. This research may well provide the very real need to apply better techniques to managing ART medication as well or we will end up seeing large numbers of MDRHIV patients as well. Co-Infection issues and the management of same also needs careful and consistent research and monitoring in consultation with doctors, allied health workers, carers and nutritionists. WHY, - because India needs long term survivors as an efficient resource for prevention and care initiatives to save the uninfected population before it is too late. I'm sure this matter must be in the following list of thrusters or are they thrustacians. Over to you highly skilled Indian clinicians and social health educators and researchers!
