Guest guest
Dear Friends, On Saturday 3rd May 03 at 10AM at Constantia Hall, Gate no 1, Ashoka Road, new Delhi-1, the YWCA along with Delhi State AIDS Control Society and Help AIDS India Foundation, is organizing a seminar on HIV/AIDS- Lawyers perspective HIV/AIDS has ceased to be an infection affecting only the truckdrivers, commercial sex workers and the economically downtrodden. Today the disease has become democratic in pattern: it does not spare social status, academic qualifications, technical skill or wealth. We, at the YWCA have taken up the exigent task of facilitating enabling environment through lectures & seminars on HIV/AIDS. We believe that prevention is the most effective cure for HIV/AIDS and lack of knowledge about it leads to unfair and unjust discrimination of those who are affectedE The AIDS awareness campaign of YWCA of Delhi was launched in August last year by Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit and Union Health Minister Shri.Shatrughan Sinha. Since then the seminars and lectures held on the control & Prevention of HIV/AIDS are:- Enemy at your Door StepE For parents on their responsibilities & commitment towards their children in the context of HIV/AIDS. Multi-Faith Religious sponsorship for control & prevention of HIV/AIDS. Lecture conducted at Air Force Station Palam. Interactive discussions with more than 850 students of Women's Technical Institute, YWCA. On Saturday 3rd May 03 at 10AM at Constantia Hall, Gate no 1, Ashoka Road, new Delhi-1, the YWCA along with Delhi State AIDS Control Society and Help AIDS India Foundation, is organizing a seminar on HIV/AIDS- Lawyers perspective. Mr Kapil Sibal MP & Supreme court Lawyer has consented to be the Chief Guest and the speakers are : Mr Adish C Aggarwala EVice Chairman Bar council of India. Mr Anand Grover/ Mr Vivek Divan ELawyers Collective Mr KK Abraham President INP+ Ms Kousalya President PWN+ The topics to be highlighted will be denial of Human rights in the context of medical care, education, premarital rights, employment rights both in government including military and civic workplace and right to live without discrimination. We hope to have a stimulating and powerful Q & A session following their speeches. WHY LAWYERS ? .. one may ask. Lawyers are: v The spokespeople against any Denial of Human Rights. v The Mastermind for drafting, reframing or monitoring the execution of the existing laws of the land. v The ambassadors networking with NGOs to help the deprived. v A directory of Service-minded Lawyers & doctors in Delhi willing to help people affected with the HIV virus is proposed. v The lawyers besides helping out professionally should also be protected themselves. Knowledge about HIV/AIDS can be the preventive factor in our lives. Regret of acquiring such knowledge may be too late while lack of awareness by itself is tantamount to abuse and discrimination. With these intentions YWCA would like to join hands with the lawyers to increase the tribe of those who fight the battle against HIV/AIDS with knowledge, network & charity. Sigd. Dr Shobha Varthaman Secretary UDP, YWCA of Delhi. Tel. no. 23362975. E-mail: drshobhav@...
