Guest guest
Southeast students sent home after mold found http://2theadvocate.com/stories/092705/new_southeast001.shtml By BRETT TROXLER Wednesday, Sept. 28 Baton Rouge,LA btroxler@... 2theadvocate.com staff From a report by News 2's Satchfield ssatchfield@... Officials at Southeast Middle School dismissed students early Tuesday because of mold found growing inside the facility. Officials said they noticed the problem in the morning as children were arriving, but the decision to send the children home was not made until several hours later. Southeast Middle was without power all weekend because of Hurricane Rita, and the hot and humid conditions caused the mold or mildew to grow inside the school's main building. Students were sent outside early in the morning, where they waited for several hours before buses brought them home after noon. Some parents were upset with the problem. " I think they should be calling parents to come pick up their children, " said Connie Rutledge. " I mean, there's no reason to leave children sitting outside for hours. Call, do what you can. " All parents eventually received a call via automated message. The mildew or mold found inside the building is being tested, and school leaders said Southeast will remain closed until it is clean and safe. As reported Sept. 27 on News 2 Louisiana.
