Guest guest
I expect that New Orleans may well emerge as the prime example of Sick Region Syndrome, but there are other places of sufficient contamination that the phenonemon will be observed as well - once the model for this type of illness has been established. Regarding the height of the levees as protection. When Sacramento flooded, it was determined that the failure was NOT necessarily due to water cresting the top. It was hydraulic pressure from underneath. The stratification of materials during construction focused pressure on the internal fill and under the pressure from below, the levees literally explode from within. Assessing or estimating protection by height is a false indicator of reliability. Like everything else, it's never as easy as it seems. -
