Guest guest
During the Incline Village CFS epidemic, a few teachers at North Tahoe high school became chronically ill with CFS. Nobody at the school believed them, even when a colony of Stachybotrys was found immediately adjacent to their desks. It was " about the size of a baseball " . That's it - that's all it was, so nobody believes them. They are called " malingerers " " Slackers living the life of luxury on their disability checks " . As if a few teachers would suddenly and simultaneously decide to give up their careers and their health to " choose to live on disability " ! ....and in the presence of Stachy! We have seen your story many times - and doctors of no help because they will fight you all the way, saying " That's Impossible " . To avoid the fate of those of us who believed the doctors instead of our perceptions, that were so clearly telling us what was real... it would be prudent to evacuate immediately and take NOTHING with you. -
Guest guest
Hi - Yes, pipes can " sweat " . Condensation forms on the outside from temperature differences. If the water drips on a serface that cannot dry out (like inside a wall or between floors), you can get more mold than you would have though possible. Could it be flu or something? Sure. The most telling point here is that you smell the mold and react to it. Lonnng discussions on that topic here! Some of us (me included) wish we'd known what that sensitivity meant a long time ago. The people at your place aren't lying if they say they can't smell it or don't react. Not everyone does - not even everyone in the same household or family. Because you can, they'll think you're crazy, and you'll even question yourself (see your own title above). The local Health Dept. is almost never reliable on this subject. It's a long, ugly story, but a true one. They just don't get it. There are different stages and types of reactivity. What you describe is what can happen due to an acute and immediate exposure. Wish I had a dollar for everyone who didn't get well the instant the problem was " fixed " . Actually, I wish I had a dollar for every time I wrote it off as paranoid, myself. I did that for ages, and I'm paying the price for that now. Getting out for a while could help you sort out what's going on there. Getting out probably won't make you all instantly well, but you should feel better away from the source of the mold. I know it sounds like an extreme solution, but I'd take it myself, if for no other reason than that the children are involved. Kids don't react just like adults. They get asthma more often, and a learning disability in an adult is nothing compared to a growing child. Please stay in touch and let us know how you're doing! There're lots of resources on this board and elsewhere.
