Guest guest
BLUWOOD Factory-Applied Lumber Treatment Against Mold & Termites 09/07/2005 http://www.buildingonline.com/news/viewnews.pl? id=4444 & subcategory=261 BOCA RATON, FL--WoodSmart Solutions Inc. has developed a factory- applied treatment for lumber to protect against moisture, mold, fungi and termites. The product is generating positive buzz among trade magazine editors, dealers and contractors alike. BLUWOOD was developed in 2001 to be used on all wood in the home: dimensional lumber, engineered wood, OSB, trusses, rafters and sheathing. The first part of the dual-technology system is Perfect Barrier's Infusion Film. Applied by the factory to wood components, the proprietary film encapsulates wood substrates to form a water- repellant, vapor-permeable barrier that controls liquid moisture absorption yet allows moisture vapor to escape. The second part of the Perfect Barrier System is the DOT Wood Preservative, a proven fungicide and insecticide borates solution that resists decay and provides exceptional protection from rot fungi and wood-ingesting insects, including subterranean and Formosan termites--all without adding carcinogens, heavy metals or solvents to the treated material. Best all, it's resistant to moisture before it even is trucked to the jobsite, so it can sit until itÕs needed--and remain protected. According to Morando, CEO of WoodSmart Solutions, " Lumber dealers from around the country tell us that our factory-applied process is by far the best they've ever seen, and has exceeded their expectations in test after test. " BLUWOOD's resistance to moisture has been thoroughly tested by independent labs and universities to the standards of the American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA), and has also undergone extensive testing in " real-world " conditions over the past three years in numerous locations around the country. WoodSmart Solutions has even created a " mold house " in Lakeland, Fla. where 25 species of BLUWOOD are being studied against untreated samples of the same species. " Testing to evaluate BLUWOOD's properties and performance never stops, " Morando explains. " The mold house has been carefully engineered and constructed to maintain optimum temperature and moisture conditions to grow mold and fungus, and the performance of BLUWOOD in these conditions is nothing short of astounding. " Treatment plants are currently located in Greenville, town and Conway in S.C.; Asheville, N.C.; Winter Haven, Fla.; Dallas, Texas and Southern Indiana. Several more treatment plants will come on line in 2006, including Atlanta, Ga.; New Orleans, La.; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Bakersfield, Calif., Portland, Ore., Richmond, Va. and Houston, Texas.
