Guest guest
I've had very low blood pressure and doctor always says it's a good thing but when it's been very low, I don't feel well so think he is wrong. I don't know what is good or bad but my blood pressure got as low as 100/56 last December. The upper number has been growing though. Today it was 112/76. How does one tell if there blood pressure is good or bad? The highest my upper blood pressure was recently 120/72. It was when I had the flu. How do you know when to take potassium? thanks > Marcie, your potassium level was low? > That was why my doc pulled out of work! Guest guest
first of all you should NEVER take potassium (K+) on your own, as it can cause such things as cardiac arrhythmias.....or dangerous rhythms, to be more specific. and a bp of 100/56 is a wonderful pressure--as is 112/76. victoria (former nurse) [] Re: Low Potassium Level? > I've had very low blood pressure and doctor always says it's a good > thing but when it's been very low, I don't feel well so think he is > wrong. Guest guest
Barb, I have always had blood pressure on the low side of normal, but 100/70 was low for me. And 90/64 is really bad for me. Do a search on blood pressures and check your medical records to find out what " your " normal blood pressure has been in the past. That's the way I found out my had dropped a lot more than it should have. As for potassium level, they have to do a blood test to get that level checked, since I eat a lot of potassium rich foods ( broccoli, bananas, peaches and other healthy foods rich in ), we knew something was wrong even though a normal potassium level should be between 3.5 to 5.1 mmol/L my level should have been on the high side because of what types of foods I eat. You can check your medical records of previous tests to find out what your " K " level was in the past and compare it to a current blood test level. Low potassium levels affect electrolyes balance (similar to what you get from Gatorade drink). Low electrolyes can have a REALLY BAD effect on your body and heart. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Isn't " SLOW K " a prescription anyways? My doc prescribed it for me and I DON'T ever take ANYTHING without checking with my doctor. NO ONE SHOULD EVER take anything without checking with a doctor! I have drug allergys and I could easily drop dead by taking the wrong thing! 's right, never take anything without checking with your doctor, just because my doctor says for me to take something does not mean anyone else should take it too! That is why I referred to checking with your doctor regarding previous test results. The doctor should always be informed of what you are doing, (before you do it), talk to your doctor, after all the doc spent years going to med school. My doc said that the low potassium was causing " MY " heart to race and " I " was passing out because of that, I haven't passed out since but still have some chest pain. That doesn't mean that was why anyone else would have have the same symptoms, we are all built different and he was going by " MY " medical history. Thanks, -- In , " " <toria@b...> wrote: > first of all you should NEVER take potassium (K+) on your own, as it can > cause such things as cardiac arrhythmias.....or dangerous rhythms, to be > more specific. > > and a bp of 100/56 is a wonderful pressure--as is 112/76. >
Guest guest
YES, SLOW-K IS BY PRESCRIPTION, BUT THERE ARE OVER THE COUNTER K+ SUPPLEMENTS THAT LOTS OF PEOPLE TAKE-- & THEY THINK THEY'RE " SAFE " . NOT! TAKE CARE, ALL. VICTORIA [] Re: Low Potassium Level? > Isn't " SLOW K " a prescription anyways? My doc prescribed it for me > and > I DON'T ever take ANYTHING without checking with my doctor. Guest guest
I'm not speaking about my current doctor who is treating my wife and I for biotoxins. He is a lifesaver!! Thanks doc!! But my experience with most has not been good at all. I don't know how many times I coughed up some money for 3 minutes and a " Looks like you have what's going around and here is a script for some amoxicillin, cya. " I can do better myself with webmd than that! If you have a good doctor, disregard. But if you are like me, excluding my present doctor, then being ignored or cutoff in conversation by a doctor and then given a large bill and a bogus script tends to get annoying!! > > first of all you should NEVER take potassium (K+) on your own, as > it > can > > cause such things as cardiac arrhythmias.....or dangerous rhythms, > to be > > more specific. > > > > and a bp of 100/56 is a wonderful pressure--as is 112/76. > >
Guest guest
CAN'T ANSWER THAT, JAMES--PLEASE ASK YOUR DOC, OK? ALTHOUGH, YOU KNOW THAT TABLE SALT (SODIUM) WILL TAKE YOUR BP UP.....SOMETIMES, DANGEROUSLY. Guest guest
and , I was just in the hospital for chest pains. They did blood work and I had no potassium. They gave me an IV with saline because I was also dehydrated and then gave me 2 huge potassium pills. My Blood Prussure was 51/33. I do take BP medicine and recently had it dropped to a lower dose. They ended up doing x-rays and then a Cat Scan looking for a pulmulnary embolissum (sp?) Negative...thankgoodness. They did not want to hear anything about mold. Guest guest
, I feel at little better today. Just had my 8Th IVIG on the 5Th.(WED.) I went home drugged up and called Yanni Zack then went to bed. I slept til 4:00 am and never fed my poor cats. The Infectious Diease doc did not want to run the Antibody Titer Panel Test. Stated he did not feel it was important. He then gave me an article to read dated 2002. It pretty much was against the belief that a person could get sick inhaling mold.( GEEE....where have we heard that recently???) The last paragraph stated only if the person has a compromised Immune system would they get an infection. ( Hello doc...what have I been having the Immugmogblin Infusions for...NO IMMUNE SYSTEM) Well, I showed that to the Pharmacist that was giving me the IVIG and he stated....yep, I know, but you can't change what the doctor believes. He said he would talk to him. I called yesterday and the guy that helps me with the insurance stated the doctor did not want to run the test. I told him to " humor me " and run it and if the doc would not, I would find one that would. After all, they took my blood for other test....what would it hurt except to prove him wrong. BIG EGO'S get in the way of helping people. Will let you guys know what happens! Thanks, Marcie <toria@...> wrote: OF COURSE NOT, MARCIE--ITS NOT IN THEIR PRECIOUS " MEDICAL BOOKS " ........YET.
