Guest guest
Parents' Concerns Grow Over School Mold Problem Tue Aug 23, 4:02 PM ET WDIV ClickOnDetroit.com http://news./news? tmpl=story & u=/wdiv/20050823/lo_wdiv/2896807 The first day of classes was held in a Dearborn school Tuesday where a mold problem continues to concern parents. The Dearborn School District conducted tests last year at Middle School after students complained of headaches and a strong odor, Local 4 reported. District officials said microbial volatile organic compounds were detected at the school. These compounds are produced by mold and can cause nasal irritation, dizziness, fatigue and nausea, the station reported. Parents were convinced that there was black mold in the school that was causing their children to get headaches. But the levels found at the school were far below what is considered to be a risk. " The MVOCs at are 10 times below what is considered to be the acceptable level, " said Artis, Dearborn Schools superintendent. The school's ventilation system was improved and district officials said the building is safe for students, according to Local 4 reports. Some parents and faculty were not assured the building was safe, so the school district held a meeting Monday night to address concerns.
