While many Emory University students are studying for midterms,

nearly 150 freshmen are either moving or getting ready to move out

of their dorms.

" My room's been very damp, bath towels and everything, " said Emory

freshman Tzou.

Freshmen at Emory's Turman East and Turman North residence halls say

they've been dealing with a moldy problem.

University officials say they didn't discover a leaking roof in the

25-year-old buildings until students were moving in a month ago.

" There was visible mold inside the wall cavity. Not visible in the

room, but inside the wall cavity. And we realized we had very high

moisture content. Higher than normal. Too high for occupancy, " said

Bob Hascall of Emory University.

Now they're moving out, many of them to the Century Center Marriott,

four miles away.

They'll get maid and laundry service, HBO, continental breakfast and

shuttle rides to campus all paid for by the university. But some are

far from satisfied.

" I think it's a hassle and it's ridiculous. We paid enough money

here that we shouldn't have to check into a hotel, " said freshman

Goldstein. " They should have checked out this problem

before. "

Many students are moving out tomorrow. They'll be gone for the rest

of the semester.

University officials promise they'll return to a cleaner, dryer and

healthier dorm. Although it won't have room service.

Some of the freshmen who have to move are asking that the university

waive the ban on freshman cars on campus. Tuition, room and board at

Emory University adds up to about $40,000 a year.
