Guest guest
FEEDBACK Monday, 22 August 2011 Last week, I wrote a message about the fad and bogus diets you'll find on the market these days. I told you how some companies ask me to endorse their weight-loss products. (I also told you I usually give them a pass.) I'm talking about those weight-loss gimmicks and products that promise they're going to help you lose weight...forever. Oh, it seems you can't turn on the TV or open a magazine without seeing ads for some of these products. Well, when I wrote that message, I got quite a bit of feedback from many of you about those "promise-you-the-world" weight-loss products you come across, it seems...all the time! Well, when it comes to some diets, there are some things you need to be on the lookout for...before you hand over your credit card numbers. And here are some of the things I want you to consider. Many of these diets promise super fast weight-loss. Sometimes, I have people come into Slimmons and say to me, ", I lost ten pounds in just ten days!" Now you know it's not good, to be losing weight that fast. A healthy rate of weight-loss is about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week. That may not sound very "fast" but at that rate, you'll be surprised at how fast your weight-loss numbers add up! Now if you're very obese and just beginning a weight-loss program, you'll lose a lot of weight in those first couple of months. But much of that will be water weight-loss and, as you continue, your rate of weight-loss will slow down. You'll eventually fall into that roughly pound-and-a-half weight-loss a week range. And that's where you want to be. Many diets limit your food choices. You can't eat fat. You can't eat carbs. You can only have protein. Oh my...the limitations. Now listen up. Banning any of the foods from the six food groups from your weight-loss program is a big no-no. Why? Because you need a healthy mix from the six food groups. By banning any one group of foods, you're denying your body some of the important nutrients it needs everyday to function properly. And let me tell you, lots of the people who try to lose weight by limiting their food choices end up having medical problems as a result of their unwise decisions. Have you ever come across diets that require special combinations of foods? For the past 40 years, some weight-loss programs have claimed that combining certain foods as part of your weight-loss program will give you immediate results. They claim these foods, "working together" will help burn fat and calories. Oh, please! There is no scientific evidence that certain combinations of food are going to do anything to help you lose weight. That's just one of those urban food-myths, my friends. Then there are the diets that include special pills or powders you must take. They're supposedly loaded with "secret ingredients" to "increase your metabolism". (Hey, wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn?) Look, many of these products' so-called secret ingredient is nothing more than a diuretic. It's main effect will be to send you back and forth to the bathroom. And here's the kicker, any weight you may "lose" will come right back when you rehydrate yourself with a few glasses of water or fruit juice. And now, here's one you really need to watch out for. I'm talking about those diets that claim you don't have to exercise to lose weight. What?! Are these people out of their minds? Someone needs to set them straight now and looks like it's going to be me! Now this is very important. A dedicated exercise program is crucial to your successful weight-loss and maintenance. That's a tried-and-true fact you must never forget! I'm proud to say I've never put any crazy products out there to help you lose weight. My original Never Say Diet plan, my Deal-A-Meal and today, my FoodMover have all taught you how to eat to eat the right foods, in the right-size portions. And for all of these years, I've released workouts that make you laugh, sweat and have fun as you burn those calories. Hey, no pills or powders here. Well, okay, maybe just a little powder for my face! LOL. (Hey, gotta look good ya' know!) Love,
