Guest guest
I probably ask some unheard of questions, but as I said , I am ignorant to toxic mold and am trying to learn thru the help of all of you. My son and I went over to the " mold house " to rescue our things outside, patio furniture, plants etc...the furniture has black moldy spots growing all over it, the plants are all spotty and sickly, and I noticed areas on the house where the bricks and cracks in the morter around them were growing blackish mold. Also, bottom bricks on the slab closet to the ground, mold...and the easments under the roof have black moldy blobs, along with the big vents(attic vents)just under the roof peaks at the ends of the house are coverd in blackish mold. It seemed as if the house was oozing at the seams with mold!! Can this be possible? Does that mean the house is totally saturated with mold? Just being in the yard caused me to have a severe headache and dizziness Am I just being paranoid? Is it possible there is so many mold spores oozing from the house they are outside surrounding the house, covering all the things in my yard? Please help...and if this is a little " crazy " sounding, just tell me not to post anything like this again and send me on to the psychiatrist!! Please advise.....Faith
Guest guest
Faith, I don't have a 100% answer for you, however what you described is similar to just about every home in Houston. Mildew and mold quickly grow down here on our bricks, siding, walkways, concrete driveways, gutters, fences, walking stones, wooden decks, plants, etc. I pressure wash my entire exterior 3-4 times a year using a detergent in the pressure wash hose attachment and it's really interesting to see the black concrete walkways and driveways of my neighbors compared to my light gray concrete. I can look across the street and see my neighbors' black mortar between their bricks, the mildew growing on the bricks and the black/green mildew/mold on their siding, roofs and gutters. Down in Houston mold/mildew on the exterior is common. I choose to remove mine as often as possible since I'm so reactive to mold and believe in prevention. I even go up climb the roof to reach the second floor gutters and siding with the pressure washer. And I spray my roses and other plants that are prone to fungi weekly alternating between baking soda in water, neem in water, and vinegar in water. If I didn't do this they would have black spots and be very sickly. Again, this is what all gardeners in Houston must do to prevent fungi on the plants. I recall a while back I was busy and neglected my plants and after a few weeks noticed the black spots and deterioration in vitality of those plants prone to fungi. Had to cut off the really bad affected leaves and stems and spray them. I try not to forget or ignore them. This is part of gardening in Houston. Now if only I could find something that would take care of the snails that eat all my vegetation other than my having to go outside early in the morning to hand pick them. Hope this helps.
