Guest guest
RUNNING ON EMPTY Thursday, 25 August 2011 No, I'm not talking about your car. I'm talking about how so many Americans run their bodies on empty...empty calories! I'm sure you've all heard that expression before, right? But have you ever stopped to consider what empty calories are? Well, they come from eating foods that provide practically NO nutritional value to our bodies. Many years ago, we didn't see so many of the foods that now line our supermarket shelves. Way back when, people ate in a "simpler" way. And you know what else? They weren't in such a hurry to eat, the way so many people are today. (Unless they were Bonnie & Clyde. LOL.) But somewhere along the way, things changed. Americans got on the fast track. Now we want everything in an instant and we demand it of our foods, too. To fill our demands, the food companies came up with ways to feed us fast so we could literally eat-on-the-run. Oh-oh, here come the processed foods with all of their empty calories. And let me tell you, our bodies really don't like them very much. Okay, there's no need to lie about it. These foods can taste delicious. That's because they contain high amounts of sugar, salt, unhealthy transfats and a bunch of other ingredients they didn't come by naturally. Many of the ingredients they contain are manmade and have no business filling up our bodies. These manmade ingredients are added to enhance the flavor of many of the foods we eat. And, to tell you the truth, those additives actually make some processed foods addictive. So if you're not eating a healthy mix of foods from the six food groups, you're probably spending lots of your daily food consumption running your body on empty calories. And, in time, those empty calories are going to do your body a lot more harm than good. That's right, eating too many of these foods will end up causing you to gain weight and lead to a number of medical problems. You don't need that and I know you don't want that for your body either. Look, if you don't give your body what it wants and needs, then your body won't give you what you want and need. Good health! (It's a two-way street, you know.) When you're eating healthy foods, you have more energy, more stamina and vitality. But when you fill your body with unhealthy processed foods, you find yourself tired, lethargic and there always seems to be something hurting on you. So, would you say you're running your body on empty? Well, if you are, let's change that, shall we? Fill your body's tank with premium foods. Fill it with fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, smart fats, healthy carbohydrates and low-fat dairy products. And boy, when you do, you're gonna feel like a brand new Cadillac as you drive that fit and good-looking body of yours down...The Freeway of Good Health!
