Guest guest
In January, I released 16.0 lbs In February, I was hoping for half of that and I managed 5.6 lbs. It's ok, I'll take that 5.6 lbs loss and run far far away from them. So, 21.6 lbs gone this year...whoop! March: Maybe I can settle somewhere in the middle (11 lbs?) Well. Mom's post-surgery infection really took a toll on me in February, with having to work full time, doing all the cooking, cleaning, etc and playing chauffeur to get her to her many doctor's appointments. Not complaining, just assessing... sometimes we do not realize how much someone does for us until they cannot do it, huh? We usually share all of the chores like that. I have to put this shout out to my mother in here (LOL) because you know how much I am always saying how tempted I can be by stuff she fixes and/or brings in to the house. Since she's been laid up for a month and I've been doing all of the shopping and cooking, she hasn't been getting her "treats" and "junk" (LOL) and been "stuck" eating what I fix: she's lost like 10-15 lbs since her surgery at the end of January. GO ME!! WOOOHOOO!! LOL!! I'm fairly certain that once the discomfort from this exploratory and cleaning (debridement?) surgery gets better and the healing sets in, she'll start getting around more and want to do more, ya know? Doc says he'll probably have them put in a "wound vac" when they take out the surgical drains so she'll have visiting nurses daily to change/deal with that. OhthankyouLord! I love my mother to pieces and will do anything for her, but wound care.... that's outta this girls' league. I'm going on a week's vacation to see my hunny in March, so I shall hope and help her make it be 100% better Anyway. Thank you for the thoughts, wishes, prayers, etc. Onward and downward. Bring on March! in WA 310 / 262.6 / 155?

You still did better than me. At least this morning's weight was within a half pound of February 1 so I was happy about that, but I'm still up 10 from January 1. It doesn't help that I got sick Jan 7th and am *still* coughing up gunk this morning. >I have to put this shout out to my mother in here (LOL) because you know how much I am always saying how tempted I can be by stuff she fixes and/or brings in to the house. Maybe bring home some extra fruit for her when she gets home again to increase her vitamin C a bit and still satisfy her sweet tooth. > Doc says he'll probably have them put in a "wound vac" when they take out the surgical drains so she'll have visiting nurses daily to change/deal with that. LOL Ed's aunt in the nursing home had the wound vac in to try heal up those rectal fissures she still has. They eventually had to stop it after 2 months because she kept pulling it out, making things worse. But in normal people, the tube for the vac just sits there like a drain and you change the dressings around it. Not really a nurse-worthy procedure, but if the insurance covers it, go for it. >I'm going on a week's vacation to see my hunny in March, so I shall hope and help her make it be 100% better If she's *not* 100% and still has the wound vac in will you still be going? Guest guest
I do not think there is anything she (or we) did "wrong" to cause the non-healing, infection. I think someone was negligent (namely someone at the nursing home/rehab facility) that "made" her shower 4 days post original surgery and then did not redress the wound so it sat there for I do not know how long with soggy steri-strips, etc on the surgical site. That's another OT post though.... All seemingly well today, released to home from the latest round at hospital and doctor says no home PT or nursing is necessary. See them this week to discuss stitches/staples removal. Just glad she did not need some sort of port installed to give home IV antibiotics and/or wound vac'ing, ya know?? Thinking all should be ok for me to still leave town in 2 weeks' time, we'll cross that bridge when we get there Re: February: unfocused? Unless it was covered in that see-through waterproof plastic stick on bandage I don't think she should have been in the shower at all until the suture line was totally healed. Your poor mom! >All seemingly well today, released to home from the latest round at hospital and doctor says no home PT or nursing is necessary. See them this week to discuss stitches/staples removal. Good news for a change. Glad she's doing better and you'll get the chance to get away. Sue in NJ
