Guest guest
CONSISTENT Thursday, 29 March 2012 It's a word that comes up in my Clubhouse Monday night chats pretty often. See, when we talk about our weight-loss efforts, my Clubhouse members often bring up the word consistent. They mean, in order to lose the weight, you have to consistently do the right things if you want to reach your goal. That is, you've got to take control of your eating habits and make exercise a daily part of your life. Being consistent can be a two-edged sword. Amen! But you know what? I did some thinking and it dawned on me. Being consistent can be a two-edged sword. What do I mean? Well, first of all, I need you to consider the definition of the word consistent: constantly adhering to the same principles or practices; staying on the same course. Now let me ask you this: Wasn't it consistently bad eating habits and a consistent lack of exercise that caused you to gain weight in the first place? How many years did you consistently make the wrong choices when it came to the foods you ate? How consistent were you at overeating? Did you overeat consistently, everyday? How many times did you drive or walk past a fast food place, ice cream shop or candy store and found yourself unable to stop for a treat? Did you consistently find yourself in one of those stores getting "just a little something" for yourself? And let's talk about how much time you spent working out. A lady once told me that when she was overweight, the only "exercise" she got was arm and hand-lifts. And no, she wasn't reaching to pick up 5-pound hand weights. She was lifting one handful after another of chips, cookies or candy bars into her mouth. Sure, she was kidding but...she was also sad to tell me, her "exercise regimen" wasn't far from the truth. In fact, when it came to exercise, the only thing consistent about it was that she never did! Being consistent can work for you or against you! So, you see? Being consistent can work for you or against you! Which will it be? Well, I hope you'll listen to my Clubhouse members. They've learned the importance of the right way to be consistent in order to lose the weight they want to lose. Let me go over it again. Consistently make the right food choices everyday. Consistently make time to get your workouts in everyday. And oh yeah, keep that attitude of yours positive all the time and, believe me...you'll consistently see those pounds coming off your body, too!
