Guest guest
LET THE SUN SHINE IN! Sunday, 25 March 2012 Watch any weather report these days and you'll know that here in the U.S., much of the country just about skipped winter. There was not nearly as much snow and cold weather this year as we've had in winters past. Still, spring is here and that means we'll be spending a lot more time outside. I love it! It feels go good being outdoors, wrapped in the arms of Mother Nature. In fact, this is the perfect time of year to awaken your senses! As we get older, our brains don't process what we hear, see and smell like they did when we were kids. As we grow older, we become more forgetful and easily distracted. That's because our brains don't process what we hear, see and smell like they did when we were kids. (That's according to a study at the University of California.) According to that study, the reason we become less sensitive as we age is because we tend to tune out our surroundings and do many of our daily tasks without really thinking. We've gotten so used to doing the same old things everyday, those daily routines don't challenge our brains and we end up stuck in a rut! Awaken your senses! Open the windows of your home and take in the sights, sounds, smells of and actually feel the world around you. Better yet, now is the perfect time of year to start a walking program. I'm not talking about a mall-walking, either. Hey, they're great when it's cold outside and you want to beat the low temperatures. But now that spring is here, your daily walk outdoors are not only a good workout for your body. They're a good, therapeutic workout for your minds, too! Feel the sun's warmth on your face. Hear the birds singing in the trees as they welcome this new season. Feel the sun's warmth on your face. Hear the birds singing in the trees as they welcome this new season. Smell the blossoms of new spring flowers as you walk around your neighborhood or through a city park. Delight in watching children play, just like you did when you were a kid. Your brain needs that kind of stimulus everyday. And believe me, you can't get it from sitting at your computer or lounging around watching television and eating. Spring is here everybody. Get out of that house! Make a walk part of your daily routine. It's the perfect way to de-stress, think about your life and burn some extra calories while you're at it. If it's sunny where you are today, I want you to stop reading this message for a minute to take a look at the day outside. (I'll wait for you to get back.) Oh, there you are! Well, I hope you saw a mostly blue sky, fluffy white clouds and a brilliant yellow sun. Now remember this message as you begin your new day and every-day by...letting the sun shine in to your life!
