OH, SERIOUSLY?

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

For nearly four decades now, I've devoted my

life to helping people lose the weight they need to

lose. Nothing makes me smile more than seeing someone

doing well and, best of all, reaching their goals.

As you might imagine,

sometimes the subjects I talk about with my

friends get quite serious.

Of course you know, I spend hours on the phone

everyday talking to friends and encouraging them to

lose weight. I also answer hundreds of e-mails

to them everyday. I've known many of these wonderful

people for years and, because of that, I've shared a

lot of their life's issues with them. Oh, we talk

about their jobs, their love lives and their

families. With so many things to talk about, as you

might imagine, sometimes the subjects we discuss

get quite serious.

Someone may be going through a divorce. Another

person may have just lost a job. Or there's the

person facing a major surgery. And one of the

toughest conversations of all is talking to one of my

dear friends who has lost a loved one.

Now as you know, I've earned a reputation for being a

little silly. You know how much I love making people

laugh. I was like that when I was a kid and, I'm

happy to say, I haven't grown out of it, either.

Life throw's challenges at

all of us, including me.

When I'm talking to one of my friends about a serious

issue, I share with them experiences from my own life,

in an effort to make they feel better and realize

they're not alone. Life throw's challenges at all of

us, including me. Dealing with the loss of my

wonderful father, Leonard, many years ago and years

later, losing my sweet mother, Shirley were two of

those times.

But as I comfort the person I'm talking to, do you

know what else I want to see them do? I still try

to make them laugh. Oh, sure,

those tough situations in life make us angry,

depressed and, more often than not, very, very sad.

But even at those moments in our lives when we're

feeling most down, it's still important to find

something to smile or laugh about, to lift our

spirits.

Those people who're able to

smile, to laugh and look on the sunnier side of life,

are the ones who meet life's challenges best.

In fact, even during the most trying of times, those

people who're still able to smile, to laugh and to

look on the sunnier side of life, are the ones who

meet life's challenges best. They're the ones who

recover sooner and able to get on with their lives.

How about you? Is something bothering you right now?

If so, please don't let your sadness, anger or

depression rob you of your life's happiness.

Concentrate on the positive things in your life.

Remember, things will get better and you will

get better. It will just take some time.

Oh, yes, even silly old me, the court jester in your

life has those serious times. I'm just like you. But

I don't allow the sad times to keep me feeling down.

That's why, when you see me, I've always got a smile

on my face and...I'm always going to try and make you laugh.

Because no matter how tough life gets, you've got to

keep your spirits up, keep your sense of humor and

work your way through those challenges. You've just

got to.

Yes, seriously!

Love,
