Guest guest
I'm here and fine. We never lost power totally. We browned out for about 20 minutes then it came back and then browned out again with the power coming back that time to stay. I had a great time though watching all the cars at the Kwik Fill in front of the trailer park. Seems we were the only gas station open for miles... like the next one open was on on the East side of Syracuse... lol people were panicking... though I admit I did scoot down and buy 2 bags of ice to throw in the freezer while they still had some and in case we did totally loose power.... felt guilty walking away from the gas station with ice when I had a house with power. There were cars out to the road and parking on the sides of the road waiting to get in. One guy who was so hot headed about waiting that he sped off without getting ice or gas.... only problem was he took off out of the gas station without putting up the tail gate of his truck... he pulled out in front of on coming cars, almost caused an accident and then almost caused another accident when his cooler and gas can fell out of the back of his truck into traffic. I turned our A/C off when the power dropped the first time and it warmed up in here quick so I was off to the small grocery down the street for deli sandwiches for dinner and to pick up a few things for a few days worth of meals that didn't need to be kept cold... anyway they too were like the only store open for miles. There was one lady there... about my age, but you could tell she wasn't used to shopping in this type of small store. There were 3 people working in the deli.... I've never seen that many people behind the counter... she asked one guy (the owners son) if they had any Rotisery chicken . Nope, but they had the pre cooked from Tyson in the meat counter.. well she was lost... " That won't do...I want the pre heated... I can't use my stove to heat it up I have NO POWER! " Maybe it's just me, but I have no problem going without power.... I had to laugh when she freaked like that. (me bad... sorry) She wasn't the only one in the store that looked lost there were others too. Anyway I picked up some spaghetti and sauce.... canned beans and some other campy type foods along with 2 loaves of bread (course all the cheap bread was gone by the time I got there and had to pay 2.29 a loaf for bread!! I buy the cheap .79 cents a loaf bread when there is the chace I could be feeding 9 kids lunch during the summer!! LOL) I'm all set if the power does go out here(which could happen as they bring more areas back up on the grid from what they are saying) I have food enough for a week that doesn't need a fridge to keep it fresh. One thing I have to say is this.... Nimo never had any problems like this until National Grid took over.... I've heard this sort of thing is common in the U.K where National Grid is from. Ok I got that off my chest... it may not be their fault, but NiMo is not the same old Nimo we used to have. Terri with A/C off as they have asked us to do.... so I'll be floating in the pool all day :-)
Guest guest
I have to agree. I had some power since I think my complex was running on a generator but there were some periods early in the blackout where half my lights worked and the other half didn't. I didn't even realize what was going on since it was still daytime out LOL. I also didn't realize how much faster NYC gets dark than we do!! I just called my g'ma last night to check on her-she had no power at all and it was pretty hot. I told her to come over if she needed to but she didn't and she ended up having PB sandwich and a coke for dinner *rolleyes* I overslept for work this morning, seems the power has been flickering on and off but at least the traffic lights are working now. I have three very hot miserable hedgies that can't have any ac so I am going to have to do some big time sucking up to them for forgiveness LOL. It was kinda fun-my friends and I just hung out and had some drinks. I think it would have been different had it happened later in the day. Glad to hear everyone is ok. I are handling all of this really well! I know what you mean about urgent care..I detest them. yeah..sitting there wasting your time just for them to prescribe an antibiotic...or yeah..say take some tylenol. very annoying! and another congrats on staying off the scale! that is a triumph in that one for sure!!!! Then and I were working out and he accidentaly cracked me right in the back of the head with a 15 pound dumbell, leaving me with a major goose egg and a hell of a headache. He tried to get me to go to urgent care because he thinks I have a concussion. I figure if I'm still in trouble in a day or two I might go. I hate sitting there for two hours just to have them tell me to take an aspirin. Oh, and I'm having my thyroid removed the day after labor day, which will be right about week 9 of this challenge. > > But I did an UBWO yesterday and went running last night. :-) So I'm feeling pretty good today. And so far I've stayed off the scale since week 6 - supposed to stay off until the last day. Guest guest
Norm here. Wishing all a happy, and above all a healthy 2004. Nothing much doing on the mesa in Northern New Mexico. We’ve had a drought for several years now. The dust blows whenever the wind does. I think my defib gave me a jolt this evening. It was rather mild, but I felt it all over my heart area. (I was taken by surprise).

Guest guest
LOL!! Well I'm not much of a cook so the fridge and the microwave would be all I need. The kids would have to just get used to cottage cheese and egg sandwiches!! I'm sure that would be another excuse for DH to redo the basement with a kitchenette in it or something!!! By the way, I made the broccoli stir-fry (can't remember the actual name of it) tonight as I was trying to get ready for an interview at 6:00 and it still tasted great! I was so proud of myself. At 30 I think I've finally gotten the hang of this wife/mom/cooking thing!!! Guest guest
And I thought my getting up at 6 AM (rather than 6:30 AM as I used to) was an accomplishment!!!! I'm impressed! But the best thing I've discovered is that I no longer groan at getting up earlier, I actually feel much more energetic and wide awake than I used to (pre-LL days)! Bonnie checking in Hi guys, I got up at 4:30 this morning and did 40 LL breaths before work. I am going to try and do that each day because I am way too tired when I get home.
