Guest guest
S-L-O-W-I-N-G DOWN? Tuesday, 20 December 2011 I turned 63 years-old this year and may I tell you something? I have as much energy today at 63 as I did when I was only 33 years-old. I'm not kidding! Ya' know, a lot of people take the mind set that as they get older, their bodies slow down so they try to slow down. Well, there is some truth to your body slowing down as you get older but...it's not the entire story. Your body may require fewer calories as you get older but it still needs every minute of exercise you can put in. Sure, your body may require fewer calories as you get older. But it still needs every minute of exercise you can put in. Look, it's been scientifically proven that exercise adds years to your life and provides you with more energy. So please, don't buy into the notion that getting older means you've got to slow things down. In fact, I'd say the opposite is true. Yes, your metabolism does slow down as you get older...but! (And here's the thing you need to remember.) Your body slows down even more when you become less active. That's why it's important to keep that body of your moving, no matter how old you are. I want you to consider these numbers. An inactive woman over 50 years-old needs about 1600 calories-a-day to maintain a healthy body weight. But if she's an active woman over 50, that number jumps to over 2,000 calories per day, or more...depending on just how active she is. For inactive men over age 50, they need about 2,000 calories per day to maintain their healthy weight. But again, that number jumps to over 2,500 calories when they lead more active lifestyles and make exercise a regular part of their lives. The old-wives'-tale that getting older means you have to slow down is just that, an old-wives'-tale. So you see, the old wives'-tale that getting older means you have to slow down is just that, an old wives'-tale. Like I said, it's only partly true. I've told you before and I'll tell you again, nothing fights the affects of aging like that good-for-your-body-and-mind...exercise! Hey, sweatin' is your body's Fountain of Youth. Now I want you to remember that as you get ready to add another year to your ages in 2012. And oh yes, that advice goes for me, too!
