BRAIN FOOD

Thursday, 16 February 2012

You've heard that expression before, right?

But did you know it's more than just a saying?

There's actually a lot of truth to it. Now pay

attention to me here. Your brain is probably more

sensitive to food than just about any other organ in

your body. In fact, those foods we count as good for

our hearts? Well, our brain love them every bit as

much. Here's why:

It's so important to eat

healthy, not just for your brain and your heart but

for the good of your whole body.

See, just like that hard-working heart of yours, the

brain also depends on healthy arteries. And there're

a lot of extremely important arteries running through

that gray matter in your head. That's why it's so

important to eat healthy, not just for your brain and

your heart but for the good of your whole body.

Did you know that some studies have shown overweight

people to have an increased risk for memory problems?

Researchers aren't sure if it has something to do with

being obese itself or because of the

number of medical problems that being obese can lead

to. I'm talking about things like high blood pressure

or diabetes, neither of which are good for the brain.

So, which foods are best for your brain? Let's talk

about some of them.

Antioxidants. Your brain processes a

tremendous amount of oxygen to keep your mind and body

running smoothly. Antioxidants help keep your brain

processing that oxygen more efficiently. And where do

you find those "Anti-O's"? From eating lots of

colorful fruits and vegetables, that's where. That includes foods like berries, apples,

grapes, Brussels sprouts, cherries and even garlic.

(See why I tell you to make sure you get those 5

servings of fruits and vegetables everyday?)

Leafy greens, wild salmon

and walnuts are all high in Omega-3's.

Omega-3 foods. Leafy greens, wild salmon and

walnuts are all high in Omega-3's. Did you know, not

counting its water content, your brain is actually 60%

fat? But...it's a good and functional kind of fat

that protects your brain and helps it function

properly.

Magnesium. Black beans,

tofu, broccoli and oysters are all good sources of

magnesium. Not getting enough of this important

mineral contributes to memory-loss as we get older.

So it's important to get enough magnesium to keep all

of those wonderful memories inside your brain and your

memory for a life time!

Protein. You should try to have some protein

at every meal. Protein supplies much-needed amino

acids, essential for a healthy, happy brain. Those

proteins play an important role in the ability of your

brain to learn new things, too. And hey, life is all

about learning, isn't it? My FoodMover will help you

make the best lean

protein choices

for yourself everyday.

Are you feeling a little

smarter...about which foods are best for your brain?

So tell me, are you feeling a little smarter...about

which foods are best for your brain? Keep all of your

life's memories, keep learning and, most important of

all...just plain-old stay smart by giving your

brain the foods it loves!

Love,
