Guest guest
YOUR CHEATIN' HEART? Wednesday, 14 March 2012 (Psssst! Am I talking to you?) And just so you know, I'm not talking about relationships. I'm talking about...food! To be more specific, I'm talking about your relationships with food, especially when you're working to lose weight. Could you stop with just one or...say no altogether to that Reese's Peanut Butter Cup? I was watching two of my favorite TV morning ladies a couple of weeks ago, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford on the Today show. They had a tray filled and I mean filled with Reese's Peanut Butter cups...in a variety of sizes. They were discussing temptation and our ability to say NO when temptation rears its ugly head. Hoda actually ate one of the smaller Reese's cups and promised she'd stop with just that one. (I hope she didn't have more of them when they went to break! LOL.) And my question is, could you stop with just one or...say no altogether to that Reese's Peanut Butter Cup? When it comes to saying yes or no to eating the wrong foods, a little war goes on inside your brain. Oh yes, it's the classic battle between the angel who insists you say NO to the food and that little devil who tells you...Oh, go ahead and have a little. Just a bite or two is not gonna hurt! YES, have the food. NO, don't. YES, NO...oh my goodness, which will it be? YES, have the food. NO, don't. YES, NO...oh my goodness, which will it be? And so, the war begins. But the good news is...you can win it! First, you should admit to yourself that...YES you do want to lose weight. And, (yes again), resisting the urge to cheat and saying no to the temptations of food is one way to do it. Think about this. By giving in to your urges to cheat, okay, you're giving yourself a very brief moment of physical gratification. Oh yes, that food tastes so-o-o good when you're eating it, doesn't it? But I want you to consider something else. How "good" do you feel when the food is gone? Uh-oh, that's what I thought. The guilt begins to set in. And what happens next? Well, very often, because you feel like you've failed, a "what the heck" attitude takes over. You decide, since you've already messed up, you might as well eat...some more! Oh, it's a viscous cycle, isn't it? Sorta like one bad thing, uh, feeding off another! Are you ready to win the war? So, are you ready to win the war? The next time you feel tempted, stop for a few minutes and think about what you're working to achieve. You're working to create a healthier life for yourself. You're working to create a brand new you. So, are you going to cheat yourself of the chance to make your dream come true by giving in to the urge to cheat? Oh, I hope not. Remember, the power to lose that weight is inside you. It always has been. Only thing now is that it's up to you to use that power. Trust me, cheating on your weight-loss program is a way to "lose," alright. Only thing? It's not weight you'll be losing. It's YOU who will lose...the war!
