Guest guest
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE Wednesday, 04 July 2012 America, America...God shed his grace on thee-e-e-e! And crown thy good with br-r-r-r-o-therhood... Oh, good morning, my fellow Americans! (Ever notice how lots of politicians love to address us that way? LOL.) But to all of you out there, let me wish you a Happy 4th of July! Do you or your husband have those ribs or chicken on the grill yet? So, do you or your husband have those ribs or chicken on the grill yet? Did you whip up a big-old bowl of mustard-potato salad? Got a huge watermelon chilling in the fridge? And what's that? Your cousin, , is bringing the trusty ice-cream maker that's been in her family for years? Oh, boy...homemade ice cream! Who can resist it? Sounds like you're planning a big family affair on this 4th of July. It's like a little family reunion, huh? Everybody's coming over and you've even got red-white- & -blue banners and balloons decorating the back yard. Sounds like fun! So tell me, have you thought about your food plans today? I mean, let's be serious, between barbecued chicken, potato salad, hot-buttered corn-on-the-cob, strawberry-shortcake and 's fabulously good homemade ice cream, you could run out of windows to close very quickly on your FoodMover! How're you going to handle the many food temptations today will bring your way and stay on program? Today is not just about we Americans celebrating our independence. Well, I'd say this morning is the perfect time to plan your day. Along with all of those fattening goodies I mentioned, did you add a fresh, colorful mixed-greens salad to the day's feast? You should! In fact, nobody has to know, the salad will be the centerpiece of your own eating plans. Oh sure, you can have just a little of the other treats. I don't want you feeling punished. (Just be sure to count them on your FoodMover.) But I want you to remember, today is not just about we Americans celebrating our independence. I want you to think of today as a continuation of your own Declaration of Independence...from the temptations of food! Every year, the same big holidays return beginning with New Year's Day, then Valentine's Day, birthdays, Easter...(you get the picture). And of course, we always find a way to toss lots of food into our mix of holidays or celebrations of any kind for that matter. Hey, you'll get no argument from me about how much we love to eat in this country. But after today is over and you go to bed then wake up in the morning, tell me, how're you going to feel on...the 5th of July? Well, if you throw caution to the wind and eat like there's no tomorrow, then trust me, you're not gonna wake up tomorrow feeling so good about yourself. Don't let that happen. Don't eat anything fried that's served up today. Start this afternoon's meal with that healthy salad you bring to the party. (Use your favorite vinaigrette dressing. No one will know it's low-fat and they'll still love it!) Don't eat anything fried that's served up today. Instead of pie and homemade ice cream, have a big piece of that watermelon. (It'll be cold, tasty and refreshing without adding a whole lotta calories to your meal.) We're having a heat wave coast-to-coast so, instead of soda, lemonade or alcohol, stick with lots of ice-cold water. (It'll keep you hydrated and help you feel full.) And after your nice healthy meal, ask some of the other family members to join you on a nice walk when it cools down later this evening. The 4th of July is no reason to get careless and go off your healthy food program. My fellow Americans, the 4th of July, or any holiday for that matter, is no reason to get careless and go off your healthy food program. I want you to have fun with your friends and family members today. But I also want you starting off tomorrow feeling good about how well you did by declaring your independence from all of those 4th of July food temptations. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, everybody!
