Guest guest
I do a lot of qigong, especially on days when the asthma or arthritis is acting up. It's nice and gentle on my old joints and achy spine. Dr. Bates, (http://funwithqigong.com ) a qigong instructor, has 2 videos out, a YouTube & blog page with loads of info, and he does occasional mailings when he has something important to say. This one came through the other day, in the midst of this horrific heat wave. Maybe it'll be of some interest and help those those of us sweltering our you-know-whats off this summer season: Summer Heat & the Inner Qi Shower With such a hot summer in so many places, it is important to keep cool. I live in the rainy and too-often cloudy Pacific Northwest. When the sun shines, we glow. We sun-lovers are eager for the 80 degree (Fahrenheit) weather predicted over the next few days. After months of too few sunny days, a sunny period lifts us in these climes. Yet, too much sunshine on the head and body can wilt a person. A general survey will show you that approximately half the people in my area in Northwest Washington State are misplaced sun lovers: We dream and drool at the memories of southern heat; while the other half of residents longs for cool 65 degree days and the kiss of shade under trees. Usually the two types are married to each other--a yin and yang conundrum of some complexity. While the sun is lovely and wonderful and a shining blessing that lifts spirits and brings smiles to the multitudes, it can also beat a person down if indulged in excess. This is true for the coolness lovers as well as for for the hot-sun lovers. One of the Qigong ways you can deal with the effects of too much heat is through the " Shee " sound. This sound healing self-therapy is designed to clear heat from the body by descending it through your cells downward into the earth. Remember, heat rises. This is true in your body as in the rest of nature. This Qigong movement and sound can cool you down if you are over-heated. Give it a try. Make sure to think below your feet when practicing this exercise, which I call the Inner Qi Shower. Heat, heat, heat below the feet, feet, feet. In the YouTube video " Eliminate Hot Flashes with Qigong " I explain how to perform this technique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSQlPMXHozo & list=UU6qnc6N2k_EhHwT3Gyg6qoQ & index=1\ & feature=plcp
