HOW DID I END UP

FAT?

Saturday, 31 March 2012

It's a question a lot of overweight people

ask themselves. In fact, when I was overweight, I

used to wonder, "Why

me? Why did I end up becoming the fattest kid at

school?" Oh but come on. We all know why we

end up fat. The answer is simple, we may just not

want to admit it. We end up gaining weight and

becoming obese because we eat too much and don't get

enough exercise or any exercise at

all. Who can't understand that? Well, maybe it'll

help to know how your body works.

The calories and nutrients

you get from the six major food groups provide the

fuel your body needs.

The foods you eat give your body the energy it

needs to function. In fact, calories are energy. The

calories and nutrients you get from the six major food

groups provide the fuel your body needs. Your body

uses the energy provided by those calories 24 hours a

day.

When you're out and about during the day, your body is

continuously burning the calories you got from eating.

Making your bed, walking through the mall, working

around the house...all burn calories. In fact, even

when you're sound asleep, your body is still burning

calories, only not as many as during the day, when

you're much more active. Now here's the thing you've

got to remember.

Your body is an efficient machine. It burns those

calories but it doesn't throw any of them away. See,

the calories you don't burn are stored in your

body...to be used later. And how does your body save

those calories? They're stored as...fat. And the more

calories you don't use up, well, your body has to do

something with them. And, like I said, your body

can't just toss those unused calories away. (Once you

eat them...the calories are there to stay.) So, the

more calories you give your body to store, the more

weight you gain. (Still wondering "how" you got fat?)

If you want to lose weight,

you've got to use up those calories your body has

stored.

Now here's the good news. The calories your body has

stored for later use? You can use

them up! And,

if you want to lose weight, you've got to use up those

stored calories before your body has a chance to store

any more. And how do you do that? Oh, you know!

When I was obese, do you think I counted calories?

You bet I didn't! (That's how I ended up weighing 268

pounds.) And how many of us, at one time or another

in our lives, were guilty of eating without thinking,

or at least, without counting

those calories? To lose weight, first of all,

you've got to cut back on the number of calories you

consume each day. In the meantime, those calories

stored in your body as fat? Well, you've got to un-store

them! That's right, you've got to burn off those

extra calories stored as fat! And the surefire way to

do it is to get that body of yours moving. You've got

to make exercise a daily part

of your life.

I know, in one form or another, I've given you this

lesson before. But it's one that bears repeating

every now and then. How did

you end up fat? Because you ate too much and

didn't get enough exercise or...none at all. And how

do go from being fat to a healthy weight? Easy. By cutting

back on those calories and

getting that body of yours sweatin' everyday!

Love,
