Guest guest
Hi Faith: Please remember we all are concerned for you; many have been where you are right now and totally understand your fear and frustrations. I'll try to phone you tomorrow for a little chat. In the meantime, Carl Grimes, one of our members has a written a book, " Starting Points for a Healthy Habitat " ISBN 096715250X which think is very good. It's not so much how you can become healthy from an M.D.'s point of view , but I found its a very realistic overview of mold related illness, his introductory chapter describes what he himself went through with the illness, and what steps we should and can take. I'm not suggesting you purchase it if you are limited in funds. However, you can go to http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/096715250X/ref=pm_dp_ln_b_3/103-37\ 43801-5686209?v=glance & s=books & vi=excerpt to read the first chapter in his book. I think reading Carl's own words and having your son read this chapter will help you to understand that your struggles are similar to many. Perhaps your local library has a copy or you could request it through interlibrary which I've done often to find expensive or rare books. Carl's webpage is: http://www.habitats.com/hh%20web%20trial%201.htm Smiles; yesterday had a licensed plumber to repair a serious water leak in the upstairs bathroom another contractor actually caused; not the hurricane Rita but a contractor. The contractor broke a supply line, left it and told me the job was complete. 3 hours later upon entering the bathroom found water from a broken supply line had flooded the entire upstairs bathroom, under the sink and was beginning to flow on to our hardwood floors. I could have had the entire upstairs flooded out, with water coming down my ceilings. I immediately had " victim " or " poor me " hat on and then realized no, it's time to get to work. What would the Sickbuilding members do? Shut off the water valves, got towels, emptied everything under the sink, got my fans, dehumidifiers, and went to work. Next day a licensed plumber came. I asked him to please removed the bottom shelf under the sink that was tightly fastened and I couldn't remove knowing that water had flowed underneath it. The licensed plumber told me there was no need, the water will evaporate in time and he tells all his customers that mold really isn't such an issue as it's made out to be by many. He also pointed out that the water will penetrate through the grout to the underfloor, under the baseboards, etc and do I intend to tear out the ceramic tile. I thank him for the information, looked at him, gave him a sweet smile and told him that I will pay him to remove the shelf, and please do it now. He didn't say a word, I went downstairs, checked on him 1/2 hour later and he had it removed. I could have tried to argue with him, reasoned with him, tried as a housewife to explain to the macho experienced and licensed master plumber that I knew more than he did about water leaks and mold prevention but that would have been useless and would have made me feel like a victim, angry, frustrated, helpless, or just defeated. We had a nice talk for about an hour after he finished. He took an interest in what I know, we discussed how he exposes himself to harmful chemicals daily without protection, working in sewer lines without protection, what he might be inhaling and through transdermal. He never thought of that, I told him to take a garlic clove, crush it and rub on to soles of his feet and shortly he would exhale garlic odor. Gave him some ideas what he can take to protect himself, what kind of liquids to drink while working in the heat, a protein drink when he doesn't have time to stop for lunch, etc. Simple things. He was really impressed and gave him some samples and in turn got a reduction in my bill. That convinced him and he asked more questions. I asked him what he does after he shuts off a major interior water leak. Does he just leave the job or advise clients to dry the area properly before closing up. He started thinking. lol maybe he should get Carl's book also. The point I'm trying to make Faith is that yes you and your son are very ill, have little assistance where you live, don't know what to do or who can assist you both plus the mold related illness is causing havoc on your body and also your emotions and you don't have unlimited finances. You feel like a hopeless victim to mold and a cruel disease that has suddenly taken over your life. Most of us felt exactly like you do right now. But you are not a victim, you can take off that hat, you have us, we'll help all we can if you take some suggestions we make......just do them.....don't try to reason with those who don't understand, don't try to explain, don't waste your precious energy on educating others right now about your illness or the mold in the rental home; that will only drain you further; save those energies for constructive action that you must take and don't waste your precious reserve of the little vitalism and energy you have left becoming angry and frustrating with the lack of assistance you have received or the unwillingness of doctors to give you a pro-rated fee for a letter you need; all this drains you and leaves you more defenseless and weaker. Concentrate on what you can take responsibility for, keep focused on that and after you've found safe shelter no matter how small it is compared to what you have now or how much you've had to put into storage or sell and begin to regain your health....then you can allow yourself to cry for a little bit and then come back to us for the next step in your journey. You and your son are not alone. We care, I care, Rosie Re: [] Fungdar > And...could someone give me the steps for getting better.....Drs., > medicines, foods etc. I just recently found out I have been exposed to > stachy, aspergil, pencill for apx 1 yr at a very highlevel of spore > count...1,600,800.
