Guest guest
Hi Rebekah! I’m new too. My daughter was diagnosed at age 7. 27 months seems awfully young, BUT…that being said, you should know that my knowledge on this subject is only NOW becoming useful to myself and my daughter….I’m not an expert by any means. In fact…I ALSO was diagnosed with MILD Aspergers. When my daughter was diagnosed, they were curious about ME..and my ex-wife. I was diagnosed with ADD as a child…and Aspergers, I’m told…mimics some of the symptoms of ADD. So I got tested..and…welllll..it explains a lot that I wasn’t able to explain for 37 years on this earth. I hope this helps you in some way. I wish you and Cole all the best. Sincerely, From: c0lesm0m [mailto:rebekahe@...] Sent: Monday, February 28, 2005 1:51 AM To: Autism and Aspergers Treatment Subject: New here Hi, my name is Rebekah, and my son Cole is 27 months old. He has Sensory Processing Disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, gravitational insecurities, seizure activity and night terrors. He has been receiving OT, PT, and ST for almost a year now, and recently they told me they thought COle should be evaluated for Aspergers. I am curious what ages your children were diagnosed with autism/aspergers... I would greatly appreciate the info! Thanks, Rebekah
Guest guest
My DS was diagnosed with autism a few months shy of 4 years old, but if I look back, he had symptoms of regression at about 2 1/2 or so. If I had had him evaluated at 3, when I was concerned about his language, he might have been diagnosed then...but we just thought he was a " late talker " Donna
Guest guest
My son was 6. I am one of those parents who was repeatedly reassured by a well meaning ped that my son was perfect and I had nothing to worry about. He could have been dx's much sooner than that and SHOULD have been diagnosed by 2 1/2 at the very latest. > > Hi, my name is Rebekah, and my son Cole is 27 months old. Thanks, Rebekah **********Welcome to the group Rebekah, my son ,12, was diagnosed with OCD first at 9 and Asperger’s at almost 10. I am wondering how your son got the OCD diagnosis at 27 months. 9/11 put my son over the edge about poison, which is when he was diagnosed with OCD. As a baby he didn’t crawl, point, smile , or sleep. He had a thing for trains at a year old and later loved Tank. He had special interests from an early age, trains, old locks, solar and skeletal system at 4, old tanks at 5, civil war at 7 and many more. He never had a language delay and actual scored somewhere in the 90th percentile for verbal abilities. However, very low in other areas of language, such as pragmatics. He likes facts and information. We have always gone with ’s interests. My suggestion to you would be to read and play with your son lots. Tank would be a great learning tool. I wish I had got down and played with my son more. I have always been home with him and we are very close but I didn’t really play with him. I did read extensively to him from 3 months on. I would also suggest giving him large sheets of paper and have him scribble each day. Holding a pencil became a major issue for my son. My son had me drawing him trains, etc. but wouldn’t try them himself because he wanted them perfect…(.not that mine were) Got to go for now….Gail
Guest guest
Hi Gail , my son was diagnosed around 8 yrs of age, he is now almost 13. I havent really noticed OCD in him, maybe a little when he was young, but he has been on Risperdal for a few years now, and that seems to depress the austistic quirks in him. When Tyler was that young 27mos. , nobod y would listen to me until he was in Kindergarten, so you are lucky to know now. Guest guest
Hi , you know your son - he is perfect. He is a gift from God , he is just different and unique. These kids with Aspergers/autism, they arevery smart. I've told my son Tyler that I wish I could've been as smart as he is. I had to work very hard at school. I was the average student. My son is uniquely different, he talks and he so interesting. Anyways, I just wanted you to know that your son is a blessing, just uniquely, but perfect because God created him. Sometimes we learn from them. God Bless you and yours Caren -- Re: New here My son was 6. Guest guest
He has dx of OCD because it largely runs in the family, and he is such a perfectionist. When he lines up his cars (thats how he plays with them) they are by color and all face the same direction... this is the case with everything. Cole has no speech delay, but his language skills (pronounciation) are largely lacking. His fascination is cars... and although he has lots of other toys, this is his main focus. He is also fascinated with taking things apart & putting them back together. He sees a developmental pediatrician tomorrow... so I guess we will find out more then. --Rebekah > New here > > > Hi, my name is Rebekah, and my son Cole is 27 months old.
