Hello Rebekah! My name is and I have a 13 year old who was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 11. I could tell something was a little different about him when he was about 5 and started school, it was mostly the socializing part. He also had some compulsive behavior, which included going on every swing in the park in a certain order, not eating off certain dishes, and lining everything up symmentrically. I couldn't cut his waffles or pancakes or he wouldn't eat them, which he still has. He has overcome the lining things up and he doesn't play in the park anymore at his age. The teacher's noticed something different, his handwriting was messy and he couldn't color in the lines, until he was in about 3rd grade. I had him tested for fine and gross motor skills, which they told me were within normal limits. Doctors told me nothing was wrong. I had him start seeing a school counselor in 3rd grade. One day my Mom called me and said she

saw an article on the internet about this disorder called Asperger's and said it sounded exactely like my son, well,lo and behold he was diagnosed with it just a few months later. I had never even heard of it before this. I just never knew what was wrong and just assumed he was extremely shy with other strange behaviors. He also had a seizure disorder but has since outgrown it. He started having them when he was 7, he had a very mild case of only 2 or 3 seizures a year and they would only last about 30 seconds each time. He was on tegratol for a very short time and then outgrew the seizures 2 years later. He hasn't had one since then. Well, if you need someone to talk to about it, I'm here. c0lesm0m <rebekahe@...> wrote:

Hi, my name is Rebekah, and my son Cole is 27 months old. He has Sensory Processing Disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, gravitational insecurities, seizure activity and night terrors. He has been receiving OT, PT, and ST for almost a year now, and recently they told me they thought COle should be evaluated for Aspergers. I am curious what ages your children were diagnosed with autism/aspergers... I would greatly appreciate the info! Thanks,Rebekah

Hi Rebekah,

My son was diagnosed at 2.5. Fortunately, my pediatrician did not feel he

had enough speech and sent us to Regional Center. He has always been high

functioning, but did lose all speech for a while. He is now 8.5 and that

diagnoses has held. HE stll shows signs.

My daughter was diagnosed with PDD-NOs at 2. Becauseof my son we took her in

to Regional Center. The psychologist was unsure, but gave her that diagnosis

just in case. We took her back at 3 years of age and she has a definite

Asperger diagnosis now.

At 27 months, I think they can look at your son and tell you if you should

be concerned. Also the current issue of Newsweek talks about young children

(babies) and Autism. That would also be a good source. I believe you can

view the article online.

Hi Rebekah,

My son wasn't diagnosed with anything until he was 6 yo due to MDs

that didn't quite " get it " . I raised the subject of Autism with a

MD when he was approx 18 months and got in return, " he's just

spoiled, put him in a preschool " . Listening to this Pediatrician

who I absolutely adored, I followed his advice and tried a

preschool, what a flop. We had the AS diagnosis at age 9 after

years of ADHD, Bipolar, ODD, Tourettes, Etc. I wish I had not

trusted his first (of many) pediatrician so much and pushed harder

to get an adequate diagnosis at an early age so he could have

received Early Intervention Services at you son's age.

Dana ('s mom, 11 yo who knows everything about everything, just

ask him.)

I've always heard that most aspies are hard to diagnose until they get older. Cameron was diagnosed with ASD at 4 years, 4 months old. The ped. that diagnosed him wants further evaluation to look for Aspie, but he even said it was usually hard to diagnose so young.

Re:

New here :)

He has dx of OCD because it largely runs in the

family, and he is

such a perfectionist. When he lines up his cars

(thats how he plays

with them) they are by color and all face the same direction... this

is the case with everything.

**************** now

12 lined up his trains and soldiers perfectly also. What I consider OCD came

out when he was 9 after 9/11. He would ask “is it poison” and go to the sink and

rinse his hands. He is on medication for this and asks some but he is much

better mentally than he was.

Cole has no speech delay, but his

language skills (pronounciation) are largely lacking. His

fascination is cars... and although he has lots of

other toys, this

is his main focus. He is also fascinated with

taking things apart &

putting them back together.

************My son at 4

loved gears and the book ‘How Things Work’

He sees a developmental pediatrician

tomorrow... so I guess we will find out more then.

************Let us know what they had to

say…………..Take Care, Gail

I had been fighting for a diagnosis for my son for a year when he finally got one at 4 years, 4 months old. He was evaluated at 3 years, 4 months by the school and they said he wasn't autistic, but I knew better.

My DS was diagnosed with autism a few months shy of 4 years old, but if I look back, he had symptoms of regression at about 2 1/2 or so. If I had had him evaluated at 3, when I was concerned about his language, he might have been diagnosed then...but we just thought he was a "late talker"Donna

Hi .......my son has IgM deficiecy also as well as Comined immune

Deficiency...he has low B, T, an NK cells....he also has chronic neutropenia for

which he receives Neupogen.  He has a large chromosome disorder they think is

the cause of the bone marrow dysfunction..

He was getting IVIG but then in January we changed to Subq...Hizentra....he's

doing great with it...honestly, he had some rough times with the IVIG...aseptic

meningitis last Spring that was awful..he was in PICU for a week and had

seizures and swelling in his brain.....

But so far so great with the Hizentra.....he has had no side effects...we

pre-medicate beforehand with Tylenol and Benadryl.......

The IVIG and now Hizentra have improved his life so much....he's rarely ill with

the awful infections he used to have.....now, if he gets a cold, it stays a

cold, doesn't turn into pneumonia or mastoiditis like before.....and it's so

nice to NOT have to go to the ER with all those high fevers!

welcome and good luck to you and your little boy!...sue

Welcome! My son has CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency); he is IgG

and IgM deficient, and doesn't respond to some of his vaccines either. He

has been on Hizentra for a couple of months; he was on SCIG Vivaglobin

before that. He was diagosed about 15 months ago, but had symptoms for

years earlier. He does have some side effects with the SCIG, but the

immune globulin is worth it! He mostly has local side effects, which are

neglible (and get better over time), and some lingering migraines since

the change to Hizentra, that are treated with his premeds. He only has

problems with infections occassionally now. You'll find that your son

does much better on SCIG, and it will just become part of your weekly

routine :)

Hi everyone. I was looking through for weight loss sites and came

across this forum.

I weigh 258.2 lbs ( up 1 lb from yesterday) and my goal weight is 150.

I have lost 13.8 lbs since November by using weight watchers on line

and closed my ww account when I discovered My Fitness Pal this month.

I joined a gym in March and hired a personal trainer. Things are going really

well. 7 weeks ago I could barely get off the couch. Tomorrow evening I will be

starting my couch to 5k training.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and participating in the discussions :)
