GOT SIX BUCKS IN QUARTERS?

Wednesday, 27 June 2012

When I was a kid, I never met one I didn't

like. What am I talking about? Vending

machines! Hey,

what kid could resist them. Could you?

You drop in your quarter, and ka-ching,

ching, ching! The

vending machine would drop your change into a little

slot below and the next sound you'd hear was that r-r-r-rumble as your bottle

of Coca-Cola or root beer came tumbling down. (By the

way, I know what some of you younger

people are

thinking. Change

from a quarter for a bottle of soda? Hey!

Things were a lot cheaper when I was a kid! LOL.)

But wait, I'm getting off the subject.

Vending

machines are as much a part of American culture as the

junk foods that usually fill them.

My point is that vending machines are as much a part

of American culture as the junk foods that usually

fill them. They may have gotten a lot more

sophisticated lately, offering everything from DVDs to

even electronic devices. But come on, we remember

where it all started, don't we? Who can forget the

soda or snack vending machines on their high school

campuses or the ones where you've worked? A lot of

companies have vending machines where you can buy

everything from candy bars to snack chips to even

sandwiches. (Boy, talk about vending a "healthy"

lunch!)

But wait, just when you thought they had come up with

everything that could possibly be sold from a vending

machine comes, I think, one of the wildest ideas of

all. Okay, I don't know if you're ready for this so

maybe you'd better sit down. There's a European

company that's about to introduce to American

customers a vending machine that sells...freshly

made pizzas! NO, don't laugh. I'm serious!

It's an Italian creation that's been around in Europe

for three years and now they're ready to introduce

them to American customers. (Boy, with our country's

obesity problem, sounds like just what we need.) Each

bright red pizza vending machine will be loaded with

up to 300 ingredients.

After depositing about six bucks and making

your selection, the machine does everything from

kneading the dough, to topping the pizza, to baking it

in an infrared oven at 700 degrees then churning out

your pizza choice...all in about two-and-a-half

minutes. Oh,

dear!

It really

upsets me that marketers are constantly looking for

more and more ways to make us fat!

You know, it really upsets me that marketers are

constantly looking for more and more ways to make us fat! I was

encouraged to read that many school systems across the

country are wising up and putting healthier choices in

vending machines on school campuses. That's a step in

the right direction. But I sure hope they're wise

enough to keep these newfangled pizza vending machines

off school campuses.

Are there vending machines were you work or go to

school? Hey, they're okay if you're dropping in a

dollar or two to get a bottle of water. But please,

if you're dropping in your quarters to get a candy

bar, a bag of chips or soon...pizza from a

vending machine, I wouldn't worry about the change

you'll be getting back. I'd be more concerned about

the pounds you'll end up getting...on your back-side!

Ka-ching! Here's some wise & free advice. Do

yourself a favor. Save your quarters and walk past

those vending machines!

Love,
