Guest guest
WATER WORLD Wednesday, 20 June 2012 Welcome to the first day of summer, everybody! (Although, it seems like summer has already been here a while for many of us, doesn't it?) Well, since summer signals the beginning of the hottest months of the year, I thought today would be a good day to talk about one thing in nature that really cools us off. WATER! We live in a water world! You come in contact with it everyday. In fact, you wouldn't live very long if you had no water at all to drink. On top of that, we live in a water world! Did you know that 70% of the earth's surface is covered in water? But here's what I really found interesting, over 60% of the human body is also composed of water. Hey, I'd say that makes us closer to Mother Earth than we even realized. Now get this. Of all the water on planet earth, only 3% of it is fresh water. The rest is contained in the world's oceans. That means only a very small portion of the world's water is drinkable. In some parts of the world, there are actually shortages of water fit to drink. Meanwhile, many of us here in America take good old H20 for granted. And the really bad news is we don't drink enough of it. Water is so precious and so important for your body, you should never take it for granted. Oh, no. Instead, we're too busy drinking those giant soft drinks the Mayor of New York City is trying to ban. Or we've got a bottle of some "energy drink" in our hands. Put 'em down! Look, water is so precious and so important for your body, you should never take it for granted. Water performs so many life-caring duties in our bodies. It helps regulate everything from our body's blood pressure, to its metabolism, kidney function and water even helps wash harmful toxins from our bodies. My goodness! Water does all that and we're not drinking enough of it? Come on! Planet Earth, as we know it today, wouldn't exist without water. In fact, life itself wouldn't be possible without water. So during these hot summer months and, for that matter, even during the cold winter months, make sure your body is getting enough water, at least 8, eight-ounce glasses a day. Now, let's all raise our glasses in a toast to that giver of life...water! Love,
