Guest guest
> > My mom order a set of kefir grains and a kombucha SCOBY for us and her. We got our starters yesterday, immediately did our first batch of Kefir. I whired it up in a blender with a few frozen strawberries and some stevia - YUM. Now, my kids are used to eating slightly sweetened plain yogurt - so the LOVED this stuff and asked for more! LOL - I'm already out of the first two cups. Even DH - whose very skeptical of anything sour milk related (he worked in a milk factory for a few years) - asked if I could make one for his breakfast and set it in the fridge every night. So - my ? - do I just have to grow a few of these grains in order to get more Kefir everyday? 2 cups just won't do it for this Kefir family. > > > I have tried adding 1 or 1.5 cups of milk to 1-cup kefir curds (without the grains), leave at room temperature and it makes more curds the next day. You can skip eating the curds for a day, so you have 2 cups curds plus the grains, just add 4-6 cups of milk to that. Next day, you should have 6-8 cups of curds total, just remember to save as much curds as you want with the grains so you can make as much as you can eat for each subsequent day. Along the way, the grains alone will grow and can make more curds than you can eat. Also, I suggest you take things in moderation. Be mindful of the total caloric, protein, fat... in a well balanced diet, rather than O.D. on one particular food item, even if you take kefir curds with fruits and salad... The kids may skip water, thinking kefir and fruit fluids and the ice in the smoothies may be a good substitute, but don't believe it, the body still need water. Guest guest
Mona, My nephew is 11 and pretty hefty. I looked into diapers for him a couple of years ago. I found the following site: http://www.adultclothdiaper.com/ I'm not sure how comfortable you are with cloth diapers, but this may be a solution for you. Also, cloth does not hold urine and feces as well as disposable diapers. It may be the incentive your boy needs to make the leap to the toilet. I am sure you know what I am about to tell you, but I thought I would share my experience: I learned that the bigger I made the situation, or the madder I got, the more my boy resisted the toilet. It was only after months of not reacting that my boy decided to use the toilet. I tried to take my boy into the bathroom every time I went. I talked about how nice it was to be able to flush and be clean right away. This helped him learn what to do, get comfortable with the idea, and get used to the sound of the toilet (which scared him). I made it as positive as possible; as positive as eliminating can be. At first he resisted, then he just sat in the corner, then half paid attention, and so on. I wish you well. > > > Hi Im Mona I have a 5 year old boy with non verble Autism He is on resperal ( misspelled sorry) hes 100lbs at 50 inches tall ( big boy) He has many behavior probs like hitting obbsessed with tv well, movies ( odd movies harry met sally, forest gump ect) we have been tring to potty train him for years with only haveing him do a #2 twice never #1 we are at our wits end with it but, we have ran out of room in the pull ups does any one know where we can get bigger or of a way to fix this or better yet a way to potty break him. Guest guest
Hi Mona, Welcome! My son (he is 9) is potty trained but he still has occasional accidents at night so he wears the Good Nights underwear? They come in bigger sizes then the pull ups. I'm not sure what you have already tried for potty training but we did potty day to start. We had him sit on the potty and play with his favorite toys and watch a video and when he went on the potty he got lots of praise and his favorite treat. Then he went and played but we brought him back after 1/2 an hour to sit until he went (we gave him lots of water to drink) and then we praised and rewarded him again etc.. We just kept increasing the time between potty breaks but we spent a lot of time in the bathroom that day! The next day we just kept taking him every 1/2 an hour and I gave him a toy to play with and a reward if he went but just a nice trying we'll try again if he didn't go. It took a few weeks of taking him every 1/2 and hour but he learned to go on the toilet. Sorry this is so long! Guest guest
Mona: I had the same problem with my son behavioral wise. He is on risperdal too and has gained 20 lbs over the summer. He needed the weight. Caleb was extremely hyper so we put him on ADHD medication just to see how he would react. A dream come true. He is on Daytrana patches. The ADHD medication also slowed down his weight gain. Usually kids will do #1 before #2 on the toilet. All I can tell you is patience. Caleb wasn't potty trained until he was 4. It's not unusual for kids on the spectrum to take longer to train. Have you tried depends for ? Mona welcome to the group. I haven't been a part of the group for long. This group has been a dream come true. Not only will you get advice about what you can try but you will get the opportunity to share things that have worked for you and . Guest guest
Hi Mona, our son (6yrs, ASD) was potty trained at 3. He did (and still does) really well with routines. Every night we sat him on the toilet right before bath time and read stories to him...book after book until he went #2. Still, to this day, our son will only go #2 at 7pm right before his shower ...never any other time of the day! Point being, if he's a routine kid, whatever he likes, do it on the toilet in the same fashion every day and it might stick. Good luck! Guest guest
Mona: Try finding some pictures. Our kids are visual so maybe if he can see a picture of what you are wanting him to do it might help. It's worth a try. I have a poster I can e-mail to you of a kid going to the bathroom. It takes you through each step. I keep it in my bathroom in hopes that one day my son and my husband would realize that the toilet seat goes up when they do number 1. lol I tried e-mailing the poster to the group but it wouldn't go through. If you don't mind I can e-mail it to your private e-mail.
