Guest guest
MORE, MORE, MORE... Thursday, 09 February 2012 I was just thinking. (And I think you'll agree.) It's ironic how we can be addicted to something our bodies need to live. You know what I'm talking about...food! I mean, really, you think about it. Since we humans first appeared on this earth, we've had to have food in order to survive. Food is one of the things we truly can't live without. Some of us become addicted to the many of the foods our bodies truly don't need. But, just like most anything else in life, our need for food can be overdone. That need may turn into love and, eventually, to addiction! Some of us become addicted to many of the foods our bodies truly don't need. That can lead to obesity, major health issues and, I'm sorry to say, even to the loss of someone's life because of a big health problem. All because they became addicted to food. So, do you have a food addiction? Oh my, once you've taken that first bite of something fattening, watch out! Tasting food engages all of your senses, from sight, to smell, to even touch. Then your body's nervous system gets in on the act. Your body secrets insulin, (which drops your blood glucose), and relaxes your stomach muscles, making you feel like you need to eat more to feel satisfied. (That's according to a nutritionist at Tufts University.) But I want you to pay close attention to something else. The saturated fat in foods like bacon, cheese and sugary snacks impairs the brain's ability to regulate your appetite and cravings for food. This process in your tummy and brain occurs almost exclusively with fatty and sugary foods. (Your body doesn't react that way when you're having, say, a nice salad and baked chicken for dinner.) The saturated fat in foods like bacon, cheese and sugary snacks impairs the brain's ability to regulate your appetite and cravings. The danger there is, you don't realize you're full and keep eating until you're totally stuffed. Once your other senses are engaged, your body may actually demand more food. See? Those fattening foods are even worse for us than we realized! But I want you to head off those extra calories before you even begin indulging in a food you know you shouldn't be eating. Don't put yourself in a situation where those foods can pull that "I've got to have more" trigger in your brains. Keep the fattening foods out of your house. Keep the fattening foods out of your house. Hey, those calorie-loaded, fattening treats don't come knocking at your front door begging to come in. You have to buy them at the market and bring them home with you. If you don't allow those foods into your homes, they can't tempt you. Remind yourself, everyday, why you're working so hard to lose this weight. You want a healthier life for yourself. You want to be here for your kids. You want to head off or reverse any illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure or even a heart condition. Steering clear of those bad-for-your-body foods will help you look better, feel better and...live longer. So tell me, what do you want in your life? More food? Or do you want more, more, more...LIFE!
