I resolved years ago NOT to make New Years resolutions.

I mean if it is March and your Dr says you need to stop smoking and lose 25lb are you going to say I have to wait til Jan?

If something is important enough you'll change now. Not some mystical Jan 1 date.

Happy New Year!

I am going to continue on my healthy eating journey of course, but I am also going to try to budget my money and my time better this year.

I'm working night shift this weekend in a busy level 1 trauma ER. I want everyone to stay healthy and OUT of the ER this holiday. No drinking and driving or hit buy a drunk driver.

Last year we had so many, and those that fell off bar stools and broke arms, legs, teeth, skulls, shootings, fights, etc. I want a nice quiet New Years Eve in our ER.

My resolution is to get back on my diet plan (Atkins, it works for me) and add juicing and my smoothies (low carb). In 2005 starting New Years Day till Dec 31 I lost 107 pounds on Atkins. I kept it off till this year, now have 35 pounds to lose again. Got it in time, but frustrated I let food rule my world again.

I'm going to listen to my Robbins Personal Power 2 CD set again (got me motivated for the 2005 diet) and back on board.

I cannot imagine handling all that you are dealing with, but especially how you maintain such a positive attitude!Thank you for keeping us posted on how you are doing. Please be sure to remember that your rest and recuperation comes before sending out Thank You Cards (I'm sure that I speak for the others when I say this :-) We are sending love and prayers your way…

Given my self push to enjoy Christmas no matter how bad I felt has left me back in a fetal position squalling but it is slowly passing. I don't think I updated the board since my 1st hospital stay, but I spent another week in the week of Thanksgiving. I blacked out in the lobby of a dr's apt and was rushed to the ER. I wont go into the grotesque details as I was treated awful by all but one doctor, who upon my arrival had to stand bedside as I kept coding. I have to share, he slammed my door, put one hand on my head and another on my stomach and began praying for well over twenty minutes. During this time, my vitals stabilized allowing me to be moved into a room. I went through literal Hell at the hands of a different doctor in rotation but stayed strong, partly due to the cards I was still receiving from you guys. Finally after begging and then finally demanding a new doctor, I was given to a female Internist (who really knew nothing about GP). HOWEVER, she told me my smoothies, particularly the green ones were what was actually saving my life. I was stunned. My self care was doing more for me than the 8 doctors trying to help. Many of you know I had no insurance and when I was admitted the last time, I was in the end of stage 2 of starvation. B/P 89/40, R 4-6, P 135; black outs, dizziness, fatigue and long q waves creating heart palpitations.

I was also told in front of my children that since I had no insurance, I needed to accept that there was no more they could do and quit praying for miracles. Well let me tell you that put a spark in me. I was infuriated. So I applied for SSI (temporary) and wad immediately approved less than 2 weeks later with insurance. It was a true Christmas miracle! So my resolution is to NEVER let a doctor tell me when to quit fighting again, keep my green smoothies until I complete the transition to the GAPS diet aside Lea Ann. I've also been able to reserve a spot with a world known GP specialist for Feb. 15, followed by the Mayo in ville for June. I plan to make serious headway in raising awareness in Washington this year for motility disorders along side G-PACT. Above all that, I vow to live WELL again.

I've sent some thank yous out already, but the rest are on the way. Thank you to each one of you for your thoughts, prayers, cards, advice, calls and love. Those things, however minor to some, gave me the positive energy and strength to not let them let me just give up and die. Eternally grateful to this board, to me you are all family!

Love, hugs and prayers,

I too was a night shift RN-in OB mostly. I loved it. Even when busy, we

did not have to deal with many visitors, few doctors, and no other

people wandering through, except those we expected (and often

delivered). For some reason I figured out early in my career that I

preferred night shift. OF course, it did get complicated when I had

young boys.

Leave it to me to accidentally post the last message this year.

Unless someone else does!

This is going to be a big year!

I’m hopeful and excited to be heading into it with you.

I’ll leave you with this thought by M.L. Haskins:

I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year,

"Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown."

And He replied: "Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of GOD.

That shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way."

I have total admiration and love for nurses! My two sisters, a sister-in-law, and a niece are nurses. In my opinion, nurses have an incredibly high level of responsibility without a commensurate amount of compensation and respect for the profession.

Lea Ann, When you use probiotics, do you notice a difference between the

dairy based and non-dairy based. someday I will get the non dairy

probiotics, such as

http://www.magneticclay.com/store/prescript-assist-probiotic.aspx

If you have any experience or opinion about the soil-based probiotic,

I would enjoy reading your thoughts.

I'm bad. I never make New Year's Resolutions. But I can say that I'm

always working to improve myself in the physical, spiritual, and mental

areas. A goal (for my physical aspect) for 2012 is to begin the GAPS

diet " Intro " . I've been " easing " into it by making bone broths,

fermented foods, and cutting out grains, but haven't gone " Full GAPS "

yet. My main reason for wanting to do GAPS is to heal my gut which seems

to be extremely deficient in enough beneficial bacteria populations.

I haven't tried the non-dairy probiotic to try them, but I can say that I'm going to look into the differences and try the non-dairy to compare for myself!
