Guest guest
Yesterday, another hit from the insurance industry. I went to renew my auto insurance. The second I said was disabled and no longer working, they demanded a letter from my doctor saying I could drive. I'm reasonably sure this violates the Americans with Disabilities Act big time. (I'll look it up and report back on that.) I countered with the fact that the State is willing to license me, and somebody's 80 year-old grandma who can't even see over the dash wouldn't even have been questioned. But they have their computer system set up to reject any business from the disabled until they have a letter. I asked them, since I am still technically employed, why they would do that. As far as they are concerned, I might return to work next week. They refused to budge. So I walked out on them after years of doing business. Farm Bureau Insurance, if anyone's interested. Not too bright on their part. With a perfect driving record, and one claim from a lightening strike a few years back, they needed to retain my business in order to make back what they spent on that single claim. Bottom line - if asked, tell them you're retired. It's true, and it's none of their damned business WHY you're retired, and it'll save you a headache. I'll certainly be buying my insurance elsewhere from now on!
