About the organization

Countess Albina du Boisrouvray, with her family and friends established the

foundation Association Francois Xavier Bagnoud (AFXB) in memory of her son

FRANCOIS-XAVIER. In 1986, at the age of 24, he tragically lost his life during a

rescue helicopter mission in the Malian desert. Since then, the Switzerland

based Association has been active in over 20 countries across 6 continents. FXB

works in the areas of HIV/AIDS and disadvantaged children. Thus far in India,

FXB has initiated and supported projects in all the states of India.

On 11 June 1999, Francois Xavier Bagnoud Rajasthan Society was established in

Jaipur under Rajasthan Society Registration Act 1958 (Reg. No.

130/Jaipur/1999-2000). The Society was registered to conduct activities on HIV

prevention, Provide support for those suffering from the disease, and serve as a

resource agency for others conducting activities on AIDS.

Currently in Rajasthan, FXB is active in the Jaipur, Jaisalmer. Jalore,

Jodhpur, Kota, Pali and Sirohi, Nagaur districts.

Need of the training programme

HIV/AIDS, which had its emergence in India in the later-1980s, had become a

major public health problem in a period of one decade. It will seriously affect

the health and socio-economic well-being of individuals, families, communities

and the nation in the next five years unless effective action programs are

initiated immediately at all levels and the community truly participates.

Prevalence of HIV/AIDS infection is spreading from urban to rural population.

The prevalence in rural population is more than double in comparison to urban

areas (0.19% & 0.50% respectively, July 2000 International AIDS conference

Durban). VCTs are being started at district & sub district levels. In time to

come there will be an increased demand of counsellors.

Objectives of the counsellors training

1) To sensitise the participants on the magnitude and implications of HIV

and AIDS in India.

2) To Train Graduates in Social Science about the Basics of HIV/AIDS

including counselling for supporting people living with HIV/AIDS and reducing

the transmission of HIV/AIDS.

3) To discuss & m train the counsellors for providing the Pre and Post test

counselling including Psycho-Social & Nutritional support.

4) To make a counsellors understand the various means for reducing stigma &

discrimination for people living with HIV/AIDS.

5) To train counsellors for collection of Blood and perform Rapid HIV

Tests.

l. Effective Counselling Techniques

m. Sexuality, Sensitive Issues & Safe Sex

n. Pre & Post Test Counselling (Demonstration and Role Play)

o. Group Counselling

p. Role of HCW

q. Hospital infection Control Practices & Universal Safety Precaution

r. Post exposure Prophylaxis

s. PMTCT

t. Nutritional Aspects in HIV

u. Legal Issues & Ethical Dilemma

v. Mobile Outreach Program

FACULTY: Well-trained faculty includes eminent Physicians, Tuberculosis

Experts, STD Experts, Pathologists, Transfusion Medicine Experts, Paediatrician,

Gynaecologists, Clinical Psychologists and Nutritionists.

ELIGIBILITY: Post Graduate/ Graduate in Sociology or Psychology.

FEES: The non-residential Fee is Rs. 2000/-. The fee includes Training

Materials, Lunch, Tea and Certification.

Arrangements for Boarding and Lodging could be made with prior intimation in

advance but would be paid by the individual himself.

DURATION: 2 Weeks (August 9th, 2004 to August 21st, 2004 at Jodhpur, Rajasthan)
