I cant help but feel angry that this is what is happening to the leaders PLWHA movement HIV/AIDS in the country (and this is not the first time). Is this what all the 'show casing India' and 'India leads the way' sessions during the XV International AIDS Conference all about, is this what 'access for all' is about? When we cant save the leaders of the movement can we save 5.1 million. I wish our respect to the departed leader should be in the form of a wake up call to all of us working with HIV/AIDS in the country. VJ RAJ E-mail: <vjscuk@...> 5) Sharing your grief: Dear All, " AIDS is now became a chronic manageable disease " this is the last words we have heard from him at the Film produce by SASO for the June Campaign. And this will be echoed to us all until a solution comes in for AIDS. We at SASO share the pain and feel the vacuum and share the grief of the bereaved family. Thanks & Regards, L.Birendrajit Singh(Wawa) SASO Lamabam Birendrajit <lbirendrajit@...> 6) Banta in North East will be remembered for his contribution in mobilizing people living with HIV Dear Friends, We have lost a very dear friend this morning- Lila Banta Singh. He was indeed a unique human being and will always remain an icon for those fighting the stigma, discrimination and concerns of IDU and PLWA. The Northeast, and indeed the country has lost a torch bearer. May he rest in peace. In solidarity Dr. Manjul Khanna, Coordinator Northeast, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime South Asia. E-mail: manjul.khanna@... 8) Please share more about Lila Banta Singh, Would it be possible for others to share more about Lila Banta Singh. From what I have read about him since he died I am very moved and very interested in whatever it was that he had to say about injecting drug use because it will help others here -- IDU has been growing here in Taiwan and nobody seems to know much about it. What are some of the things Banta said we should keep in mind in order to understand better why this is happening and what can be done about it. We need his help and I am sure he would like it to come to us through you. Would you please share more with us. There is so much we can learn from the struggle of others trying to fight this disease. Just hearing about his spirit raises mine! Thank You, Ellen Kerrigan Ellen <kerriganme@...> 9) Disheartening to lose one more activist and advocate for the rights of People Living with HIV and drug users Dear Abraham and friends, Its really disheartening to lose one more activist and advocate for the rights of People Living with HIV and drug users. Sahara E-mail: saharahouse@... 11) saddened by the news of the untimely death of Lila Banta We are saddened by the news of the untimely death of Lila Banta, a comrade, ally and close friend of the Lawyers Collective HIV/AIDS Unit. In our close association with MNP+ and Banta over the years, we fondly remember moments when he would gently yet passionately speak out against inequities and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV/AIDS. Recently, some of us at the Unit had the opportunity of watching a video shot by MNP+ and SASO, where Banta brilliantly conveys his strengths and fears of living with and dying of HIV/AIDS, leaving an enduring image behind. His death is an irreparable loss for all of us in the struggle for securing access, justice and rights for people living with HIV/AIDS. We offer heart felt condolences to Banta's family and our friends at MNP+, particularly Deepak and Bobby and other colleagues at INP+.
