Guest guest
Ok, I have a question about this " deadly " disease...(yes, that was sarcasm) First, history... Christmas week my 13 year old has the flu, week after christmas Sami (2 1/2) gets it anda week after that Kasi (1 1/2 years old) get the flu. Everyone is better for a few days, then out of the blue Kasi starts running a fever (103.7 at the highest), next day Sami's running a fever (102.7 at the highest). This was about a week ago (?) and at the time I just attributed it to some lingering effects of the flu (should have known better I suppose... fever doesn't generally come AFTER the flu lol). So anyway... Sami was EXTREMELY fussy tonight and couldn't seem to sit still to save her life, like she was uncomfortable and trying to come out of her skin. So I lift her shirt and she's either got several small bug bites or she's getting chicken pox (I have shingles, so it wouldn't surprise me). Neither of them have had a fever in the past few days, and I was really thinking the sickies were behind us. I should be able to tell better by morning, so we'll see. So, my question is... if it is chicken pox, what can I do to make them comfortable? I have a home homeopathic kit (30c) and there are a couple different remedies that are close, but not really. I guess I'm wondering what others have done to make their little one's more comfortable while they have the cooties lol **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
When my Daughter had Chicken pox what worked best for her was warm salt water bathes...lots of them. We gave her the table salt with iodine and also Epsom salt. The more the better and she played with it with measuring cups while in the bath. It worked great for helping the itch, pulling out the toxins from the pox and drying them out. We tried the oatmeal baths but salt worked so much better for her. I also used neem in an old nylon tied off and put it in the water. I guess neem has been used for centuries for Chicken pox. Well, that is what worked best for us. Good luck! It will all be over soon. Tonya non vaxed Mom of non vaxed Daughter 9 years old **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
My youngest got Chicken Pox from my husband's shingles last year. He only got about 40 pocks and wasn't uncomfortable at all. Sometimes he would scratch at night in his sleep, but otherwise he played and had fun. We just did oatmeal baths and that helped a lot. Hope your other kids get the Pox! We had a kid come over to get Pox and he ended up with hundreds of pocks. Funny how the two kids reacted differently. Good luck and hope you feel better soon too! Guest guest
No, my oldest three already had it (all at the same time, one after the other) and my 8-yr-old hasn't gotten it yet. Guest guest
The chicken pox vaccine is live so it's possible she was exposed to someone who had it. There are so many things that can cause skin problems--hard to know. My youngest gets hives on occasion, kind of scary. The worst time was when he had an antibiotic reaction (pneumonia). Doc told me to give a second dose anyway, and Benadryl if needed. Yikes. No way. Guest guest
I suspect she may have picked up the modified form from a vaxxed kid. She had the stuffy nose, etc. Hubby's cousin brought his kid over to play with her, and she got something too, some red spots but no scabbing. So it wasn't hives. Had the stuffy nose, too, but no fevers or anything.. Best, http://www.ChestnutHillDesigns.com http://shellyct.blogspot.com/ Life is as dear to the mute creature as it is to man. Guest guest
I believe it takes about two weeks from exposure to have symptoms appear. I don't remember my kids having fevers with chicken pox, or a stuffy nose for that matter. Good point about the modified version from vaccines. If you're really curious and your kids don't scream too loudly when getting blood drawn, you could get a blood test later. Guest guest
Good idea! They do scream pretty loudly, but my daughter is hypothyroid (as am I), so we monitor blood levels and check my son periodically as well. I'll have to try to remember to ask to have that added on the next blood draw. Thanks for the idea! Guest guest
I had chicken pox as a child. My symptoms were over 102 fever for about 24 hours. Within that time period 2 little spots showed on my chest and within another 24 hours I had enough spots on my torso for my mother to determine that it was chicken pox. The spots you describe could be chicken pox, if they spread or in Texas, where we are, I'd start by thinking that they are ant bites.. Guest guest
Thanks Donna, that is good advice. So sorry your guy had such a rough time of it. That is the worst part about being non-verbal, at least from my prespective. I wish he could tell me what hurts, or how he is feeling. He hit his cousin yesterday who is always so nice to him. So I knew yesterday that something was going on. Now the spots are making me think he has chicken pox. I guess I will see soon enough if they spread. He eats like lumberjack and drinks quite a bit too. So if he begins to loose his appetite I will REALLY get worried! Guest guest
Doesn't chicken pox start on the chest/belly region, rather than the face and back? > > My 10 year old, non-verbal son with autism is not feeling good today. > > He has 3 bug-bite type bumps; one on his cheek, and two on his back. > > They have a red base and are white in the center. Guest guest
It started on the back for my three. Winnie Re: Chicken Pox? Guest guest
My 13 month old daughter is experiencing something similar. She started out with a pimple/rash on her butt and one on her leg and over the course of a week a few more developed on her leg and face. These never crusted over though. I took her to ped. on Friday and they said it was not chicken pox and was likely contact dermatitis. I'm thinking it may be an allergy to something she's eating. The pimple marks my daughter had/has do not itch. I have a friend whose daughter had chicken pox with only a few marks. Good luck, T. > > My 10 year old, non-verbal son with autism is not feeling good today. > > He has 3 bug-bite type bumps; one on his cheek, and two on his back. > > They have a red base and are white in the center. Guest guest
Thanks everyone. It may be just insect bites after all. No further spots have appeared, and he isn't grumpy anymore. We have a lot of bees, wasps and yellow jackets in the back yard. One thing we rarely see are mosquitos because we have: drum roll please.............BATS! First time in my life I have seen a bat face to face was when we moved here last year. But it is true, they eat the heck out of flying insects. I just wish they ate bees too! Thanks for everyones imput, it really helps to figure things out when you have a child that can't tell you how they are feeling.
