Guest guest
My name is I am 29 years old and a mother of 3. My husband and I have been married for 7 years. I have two daughters (is 6) and (Haley 4). I also have a son, ( 4 months). We live in Southeast Georgia. Vaccines were never a concern to me regarding is - she had hers and seemed to do well and has (as far as I know) to this day. She finished her shots before I came to my decision - (not to vaccinate). Haley, on the otherhand, didn't so well. Her shots 'Seemed' to start out OK. I mean...I never questioned shots. But her 15month old shot she seemed 'Extremely irritable' and it took her weeks to get over. She seemed constantly fussy. Well, I don't know what else happened because that's all I remember looking back on it. But her next vaccine sticks out in my mind like it was yesterday. She was 19 months old. She had only one shot that day her MMR. Well, not long after the shot (I think a few days - I don't know) she regressed terribly in behavior. This was not my child. I hate to say this but she was horrible. I remember crying to my Mom on the phone - concerned she had some sort of mental problem. Something just wasn't right. Well, along with it she complained of bad stomach pain daily (all day) and she had watery diarrhea (not loose stool) - I mean just pooping green water. (Sorry to be detailed) This went on for months (3 to be exact). Before it subsided. I took her to the doctor they thought I was crazy and said she was just fine. The diarrhea didn't stop so I took her back and they did a stool test - just for it to come back fine. Months later, after her shot...I remember telling DH it wasn't long after her shot she began to act this way and that I was questioning the vaccines. So I mention this concern to my doctor who said in " NO way was this shot related " . I disagree. I don't want to label her and I sincerly hope I'm wrong and this is just a LONG phase - but I'm concerned she has ADHD. My husband has this so I'm very familiar with the symptoms. She has multiple meltdowns on a daily basis due to frustration. Something simple just causes her to spiral out of control. She's young...I know...maybe I'm wrong. But it's in the back of my mind. Not to mention she IS a different kid since her MMR. Dont' get me wrong - she's an absolute sweetheart but I see similar qualities my husband has. 'I need help'!! - I haven't come 'Out' yet...to my doctor. I'm scared to...I don't know what to expect...will he stop treating us if I refuse to vaccinate, pressure me to (which I know legally he can't) ect ect. I'm just nervous. My baby, hasn't seen a doctor since he was 7 weeks old. I know he needs well checks but I don't want him vaccinated and I don't know what to do. I feel like I've been hiding out - but I know he needs his well checks. I can't claim philosophical here in Georgia. I guess we'll claim religious but I feel lost. No one really comes out and says how to do it. Which religion? Our nurse practitioner knows full well we'll be lying but he can't prove it. Because he's been the kids doctor for years now. So do I get a new practitioner who doesn't know us or stay with the one we've had for years? I just don't want to slip up and do something wrong and get into trouble. I need to address this soon - because is only getting older. I just dont' want to inject my kids with any more poison. I see what it's done after the fact - and no telling what the long term consequences are. Basically, I don't want to 'finish' Haley's shots and the baby, hasn't had any (I want to keep it that way). Can you all please help me!!!!! How do I begin the religious exemption process??? Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
my son regressed after the MMR (total loss of speech- silent for over a year - has now recovered his speech - has been in speech therapy for 5 years). The folks at www.nvic.org are great - give them a call and they can answer any questions you have. Plus I am sure you will get some great feedback from others on this list. Welcome! Guest guest
, The sites to start with would be: State Exemptions Information, http://www.909shot.com/state-site/state-exemptions.htm <http://www.909shot.com/state-site/state-exemptions.htm> MotheringDotCommune, Vaccinations Forum, http://www.mothering.com/discussions/forumdisplay.php?f=47 I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's issues. I hope that you're able to work with them, and to find a way to make sure that she gets what she needs. If your dr. won't support your decision not to vaccinate, then, yes, I would change doctors. Some people here will say that they never go to doctors, that well-checks are not needed. I know that I use the well-checks to ask questions, and to learn more about what might be happening, growth and development-wise, in the next few months. I also really love my pediatrician! He's very caring, and keeps his practice small so that he can spend time with his patients. Mothering Dot Commune has a Finding Your Tribe forum that can help you find a non-vax-friendly doctor in GA. Oh, I'm Robyn, mom to Jack, almost 2 (next week!). He has had the Hib shot, and that will be all he'll get. Good luck! ~Robyn melissadimetry wrote: > > My name is I am 29 years old and a mother of 3. My husband > and I have been married for 7 years. Guest guest
Hi., I live here in Kingsland,Ga.(south east,ga) as well.My son has not been vaxed. He is now 6 months. He was going to Dr. Caldwell and she would not let me change the " Refusal to Vax Form " to suite my liking so she would no longer see my son. That was at 2 months. We are still trying to find someone who will let us change the form.I did give my own form, affidavid to the Health Dept.for his WIC Apt.(HAHA).I know of a Holistic Dr's Office in ville,Fl..They are called Progressive Pediatrics (904) 338-0434 - 1539 Parental Home Rd.ville,Fl..I don't know what types of insurance they might take.I still have to call myself to find out what their Refusal to Vax policy is.Being holistic I don't think they vax.My son is now teething and has had one small cold with a runny nose when he started to teeth. He is very healthy as a non-vaxed kid.Stand strong, get informed and don't vax.Tell your Ped that you are going to wait and think about it,mabee vax later but don't sign that refusal form until you get more info and make a clear decision.Get a copy of the form so you can read it.If you need any help in this area let me know. There are a few of us I think. There is a Mom's group and a Homeschool Group as well.Oh yea.You can try Dr. 's office to test your daughter. He will check for heavy metals and toxins.Good Luck.Let me know if you need any help.Lori-love that baby Brendon lovthatbabybrendon@... Guest guest
Keep in mind that vaccines are only mandated for entry into daycare or school. Until that point, any vaccine schedule is merely " recommended. " You don't need an exemption to decline them unless you want to enroll them in daycare/school. And if you did plan to vaccinate at some point, you don't have to go by the recommended schedule now. You just need to get the number of vaccines in before school starts. By then, you will have had a lot more time to think about the vaccine issue. Winnie Introducing Myself Vaccinations > My name is I am 29 years old and a mother of 3. Guest guest
I just received the form at my sons 4 month old appointment and I told doc I wanted to have my husband read it. I'm so glad I did not sign, cause there was a line there saying that I am aware of the neglect of not getting my son vaccinated. I live in Columbus,Ohio and need to know if anyone in this group knows of some Pediatrician that is not so pushy on vaccinating and understanding of the parent's choice. Please help. Cause I want to make sure my son gets all his well baby check ups to know he is growing good. Also with my other kids having seizures is why I made the choice not to vaccinate and investigate more. Guest guest
Another thought is to search for Organic/healthy/holistic parenting type groups located in Columbus or Central/southern Ohio. You may be able to find a local doctor through one of these groups. ~ > > My name is I am 29 years old and a mother of 3. > My husband > > and I have been married for 7 years. Guest guest
Hi, I am Kim, Mama to 3.5 and Mason almost 8 months. I wrote a whole lenghty reply to this..but it was lost in cyber space.... So, I will do my best!! was vax'ed until he was just under a year. Then I started to research and listen to my midwife/best friend! Along comes Mason, my homebirth, non-circ'ed, non-vaxed...baby boy! When I met his Ped (boys have different dr's right now) I told her 2 things: I will NOT vaccinate and you will NOT see him unless he is sick OR I want a weight check. She said fine...Right..yeah, she'll agree now, but I will get those damn " it's time to see Mason for a weight check and his vax " calls...NEVER got one!! Mason went in when he was about 3 months old, just to get weighed and measured ( I wanted it, and don't own a scale!) She has NEVER mentioned anything to me about shots. Never asked me to come back in a month...NEVER! The one time that he has gone there for an ear check, they tried to temp him in the rear..and I threw A fit!! They will not try that again!! LOL!! I guess what I am saying is this.. why does he HAVE to go to the DR for well baby visits?? I make sure that he is growing out of clothes, doing the simple things like raspberries, rolling, sitting, babbling etc... that is how I know that he is growing... hasn't had a well baby visit since he was a year old! IF he goes in for a sick visit, he is weighed anyways...other than that, I look for the same... is eating me out of house and home, growing full speed out of clothes...nad being a typical 3 year old going on 10 !! Mason is wearing 's clothes from when he was 17 months old! SO I am pretty sure that he is growing well!! Personally, I just wouldn't go. End of story. I know that all states are different, I am in Mass and will claim Religious Belief...who's?? MINE!! This got a little OT, Sorry!!! Kim --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Hi Kim, I didn't bother with well baby visits either. I think some parents just want peace of mind, and feel the need. And maybe if chronic illness runs in the family, it could be essential. But all in all, a well baby check is just the doctors way of making sure children get vaccines according to schedule. Checking weight and temp is easy to do at home. Not only that, all the weight charts are based on bottle fed babies. Many breast fed babies do not gain the weight bottle fed do. This opens the door for everyone to convince you the baby is suffering " failure to thrive " , or something along those lines. If you have confidence in your own motherly instincts, then well baby checks are just a waste of time. Sadly todays society does not support us having self confidence in this area, and many mothers are instilled with doubt. There is also the other factor of parents being labelled " bad " if they don't keep up well baby checks, vaccinations, etc. I live in Australia, and there is not as much pressure over here to have well baby checks, or to vaccinate. Guest guest
I say this a lot, but the question comes up a lot, so I hope people don't mind: MotheringDotCommune has a Finding Your Tribe section in its forums. You can choose the one for your state, then ask for doctors that meet your criteria. Although I didn't find my ped this way, I did get a lot of responses back - they were just too far for me to go. http://mothering.com/discussions/ ~Robyn upatdawnreadytowork wrote: > > Another thought is to search for > Organic/healthy/holistic parenting type groups located in Columbus or > Central/southern Ohio. Guest guest
Thanks Kim, Good point...The reason I *thought* my baby () had to have well checks is because we are on WIC and my kids have Peachcare. Peachcare is State Government Ins. It's not Medicaid, Peachcare is for middleclass families who make too much for Medicaid but not enough to buy medical insurance. In December we received a letter from Peachcare saying, Haley (my 4 year old) was due for a well check and to take her by Jan 1st. I was under the impression I 'Had' to take her but I've been thinking...I think that it's just a letter they send out to remind you. I never took her and havent' heard anything. Thanks, I appreciate your post and everyone elses. > > Hi, I am Kim, Mama to 3.5 and Mason almost 8 months. Guest guest
Oh, , the problem is that the orthodoxy do not wish us to have confidence in our mothering instincts!! If we do, they are unable to control us. And that is a threat - you simply cannot have mothers going off doing their own thing!! I heartily agree with all you say below. Well baby clinics do nothing except provide ammunition for the orthodoxy to make you toe the line and vaccinate, or, as you say, convince you that your baby has major feeding issues. They are designed to scare the sh*t out of new mothers, and they usually do. But that is how they maintain control - they have to keep us coming back.... We have been in Australia 2½ years now, and have encountered no problems at all over non-vaccinating, although I'm not even sure our GP has yet worked out that dd isn't vaxed. School know but have been no trouble at all. They just accept it. However, I suspect that will change, given how much the Australian government seems to ape the doings of the US one. Give them time ... Sue x -- Re: Re:Introducing Myself Hi Kim, I didn't bother with well baby visits either. I think some parents just want peace of mind, and feel the need. Guest guest
Funny as we read each other's e-mails there are banner advertisements for vaxing on my computer.I am sick of it.Every time you turn arround they are advertising for vaxes here on the computer and on tv.I will not be one less!!!!Shut us.We put too much faith in the dr's and pharmacutical companies.I was drawn into it a while back.A pill for everything to make you feel better. They count on people not educationg themselves so they can get them sucked in and be adicted to their way of thinking and get into our wallets.Lori-love that baby brendon Sue <mum2mishka@...> wrote: Oh, , the problem is that the orthodoxy do not wish us to have confidence in our mothering instincts!!
