autism - gene

While I do concur that there must be some genetic predisposition for most cases

of autism, we had no family history of it, nor have most people I have come

across who have autistic children. The question to me would then be, if we have

been passing this gene along all these many years (which would HAVE to be the

case - genes don't just pop up, do they?) then what is the trigger factor?
