Guest guest
LOL....Not really much difference except we pay higher gas prices here and you can't find a Taco Bell from the highway in SC. At least we couldn't while driving through to Georgia. hehe North Carolina North Carolina, South Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, what's the difference?<ducking>LTonya - <mslightningcarolina (DOT) rr.com> wrote: Well, , I'm actually in North Carolina, but you are all welcome here. Guest guest
First of all, welcome to NC! It's a great place to live and so far we have not had any exemption problems. My two oldest are fully vaxed and they're the ones in the public school system. My youngest is still in preschool, but we've had no problems thus far. Second, and I'm not sure if I've gotten around to telling Sheri N. about this, is that I've started a Holistic Parenting Group that meets once a month or so in Greensboro. You are welcom to join us if you'll be in this area. I am currnently working with Jilliani and some of her local " helpers " in getting PAVE to come speak to our group. We're building up to vaccines as this will be a real shocker for some people. We want to see how " hard core " the group is. ; ) Third, I have copied a letter I just got today from the someone in the NC school system. It's from the State of NC and is about a new tdap shot and mumps shot for sixth graders. I could not copy the letterhead, so if anyone wants the " official " attachment I can send it offlist. Have a great day, everyone! Sheri B. www.shaklee.net/simplevitality Changing Brands Can Change Your Life... Ask for Proof...ask to see the Landmark Study! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++\ ++++ January 7, 2008 MEMORANDUM TO: UCVDP Participants FROM: Beth Rowe-West, RN, BSN, Head Immunization Branch SUBJECT: Immunization Rule Changes Affecting Tdap and Mumps Vaccines The purpose of this memo is to announce additions and changes in the rules relating to the school entry requirements for tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) and mumps vaccination. Effective January 1, 2008, the administrative rule, 10A NCAC 41A.0401, has been changed, adding requirements for one booster dose of Tdap (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis) vaccine to be given to the following age groups: All individuals attending public school who are entering the 6th grade on or after August 1, 2008, if five years or more have passed since the last dose of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid All individuals not attending public schools (i.e., private, home-school, non-traditional schools) who are 12 years of age on or after August 1, 2008, if five years or more have passed since the last dose of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid. Individuals enrolling in college or university for the first time on or after July 1, 2008. This administrative rule change also impacts mumps vaccination. Individuals will now be required to receive a second dose of mumps vaccine before enrolling in school, college or university for the first time on or after July 1, 2008. The administrative rule reflecting these changes now reads (new rules are bolded): Diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough vaccine – five doses: three doses by age seven months and two booster doses, one by age 19 months and the second on or after the fourth birthday and before enrolling in school for the first time. However: Individuals who receive the first booster dose of diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough vaccine on or after the fourth birthday are not required to have a second booster dose; Individuals attending colleges and universities shall be required to have three doses of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid, one of which must have been within the last 10 years. Those individuals enrolling in college or university for the first time on or after July 1, 2008 must have had three doses of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid and a booster dose of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccine if a tetanus/diphtheria toxoid or tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccine has not been administered within the past 10 years. A dose of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccine is not required for any student over the age of 64 years. A booster dose of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis vaccine is required for individuals attending public school who are entering the sixth grade on or after August 1, 2008, if five years of more have passed since the last dose of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid. A booster dose of tetanus /diphtheria/pertussis vaccine is required for individuals not attending public schools who are 12 years of age on or after August 1, 2008, if five years or more have passed since the last dose of tetanus/diphtheria toxoid. However, pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is not required for individuals between 7 years of age through the fifth grade for those attending public schools and 7 through 12 years of age for those not attending public schools. Mumps vaccine – one dose of live, attenuated vaccine administered on or after age 12 months and before age 16 months and a second dose before enrolling in school, college or university for the first time. However: An individual born prior to 1957 is not required to receive mumps vaccine; The requirements for mumps vaccine do not apply to individuals who enrolled for the first time in the first grade before July 1, 1987 or in college or university before July 1, 1994; An individual who has been documented by serological testing to have a protective antibody titer against mumps is not required to receive mumps vaccine; An individual entering school, college or university prior to July 1, 2008 is not required to receive a second dose of mumps vaccine. The Immunization Branch is currently in the process of developing materials that will help you educate parents regarding this upcoming rule change. Finalized materials are expected to be sent out in early 2008. In the meantime, please start vaccinating any students affected by this rule change with Tdap and/or mumps vaccine. Please remember that the two Tdap products available are approved for different age groups. Adacel (sanofi Pasteur) is approved for persons 11-64 years of age, and Boostrix (GlaxoKline) is approved for persons 10-18 years of age. Questions regarding the changes in the tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) and mumps vaccination requirements should be addressed to your Regional Immunization Consultant, or please call the Immunization Branch Central Office, at 919-707-5550.
