You can? I had a dog with cancer years ago and we took her to a homeopathic vet.

She was doing really well but when the rabies vaccine came due, I was really

torn since we live in the woods. I was worried about her being quarantined (or

worse) if there was any encounter with a rabid animal. I was not knowledgable

about vaccines then, although this was the vet who opened my eyes to the issue.

He said I could tell the town he recommended she not get the vaccine, but in the

end I got it for her. Sad to say, I really feel it was her downfall. How would

you get an exemption, and what would the town do with your pet if they were

exposed to rabies?

I used to work for a vet that wrote exemptions all the time. We

either did titers, and people could hand that in with the exemption to

the town, or the Dr would write that the pet was vaccinated prior and

wasn't healthy enough to receive another but was covered from the last

vaccine (the titers have been showing that the vaccine stays in the

dog for YEARS) However, I don't know about the rabies vax, but the

dhpp, bord, and lyme we used to give all the time never stopped sick

or weakened pets from getting parvo, kennel cough or lyme disease...

I just don't vax, and honestly, I don't register with the town. My

dogs are coming and going a lot anyway, so I never have all the same

ones here, but I feel that registering dogs is just another way for

people to keep tabs on you an tell you what to do. If I get caught

though, I know there are fines involved...

Is that in all states? That would be great. My vet is very knowledgable about

vaccines and actually was the one who made me realize how dangerous they are. He

suggested telling the town that he recommended against it, but not to expect

them to go along with it (this was about 15 years ago). At the time, I was so

upset she had the cancer, plus I was pregnant that I had a tough time making the

call.

Now, I don't even register them with the town and I just hope for the best.

What is the difference between regular rabies and vaccine induced chronic

rabies?

Just curious... Thanks!

....And my Canaan dog who started showing strong symptoms of

vaccine induced chronic rabies, 3 months after being vaccinated for

rabies. This is NOT an uncommon thing...

2/3 of my dogs developed an immune disorder called demodectic mange after being

vaccinated. Any type of immune stressor can cause a relapse, and one dog is yet

to completely heal from the disease. My city tags just ran out and that dog is

due for rabies vac., but I am scared to death to take her for the shot. I would

love to know what kind of exemptions exist in VA. Anyone know? Unfortunately,

I have to get the tags, as I have been burned in the past for not doing so...
