Guest guest
I'm not sure if you fully understand the DAN approach to autism then...it is certainly NOT just about the diet. The MAIN focus IS healing the body and fixing the damage that has been done to the body. Diet is just a minor part of this approach, but it's not the be-all-end-all answer. Ask any parent who is using the DAN approach and they will tell you that diet alone will not " cure " their child. Vitamin and mineral supplements for autistic bodies just do not absorb the nutrients they need because of the damage that's been done to the digestive system. Supplements used to heal (olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, oregano oil, Rx's when needed, etc), probiotics, digestive enzymes, L-glutamine, etc are helpful in healing the gut; ridding the body of viruses, bacterias and yeast which thrive in an autistic body; chelating to rid the body of harmful and toxic heavy metals, HBOT to increase the amount of oxygen in the body to help with healing of the body and healing neuropathways in the brain, and YES, homeopathy too...and MANY, MANY other approaches, not to mention the number of therapies that are out there for ASD children..speech, OT, PT, ABA, RDI, etc. There are quite a few people on the gf/cf and taca boards who are using homeopathy, some successfully and other not. I think each child is a puzzle and you have to find which piece of the puzzle to start with before you can start putting the rest of the puzzle together. Some kids need to start with the diet and then add supplements and then go to chelation, etc. BUT some need to start with chelation, add in some supplements and then start the diet. EVERY child is different, and to put all your eggs in one basket and expect results just doesn't work with these kids. I wish that homeopathy was the only answer. BUT for most kids it's not. Homeopathic remedies are either dairy based or grain based and for some kids they just can't take the remedy because of the reaction their body has to the lactose or the alcohol. I just spoke with our homeopath last night and we are going to try the remedy again w/our dd to see if it will work. If not, then we will try something different. BUT when we tried the last time, we were in the midst of changing supplements and I believe her body wasn't ready for yet another change. Like I said, I wholeheartedly believe in homeopathy, but it doesn't cure everything for everyone. There are times, where medical intervention IS necessary. Yes, you can use Arnica for the pain of a broken bone, but you still need to see the doctor to fix the break. Do you see where I'm going with this? The bodies of autistic kids have been " broken " and it may take a number of different modalities in order to find the road to recovery. I will let you know how our remedy works after we try it again, which I am VERY anxious to do. Do you mind me asking which remedy worked for your son? We tried tuberculinum for our dd and although it appeared to work for a short amount of time, it was either antidoted or something else happened in the change of her supplements which affected the remedy. We're not really sure, but we're pretty stable with her supplements right now, so I think it's a good time to try again. There are so many people out there who are skeptical of this diet and anything that isn't " research based " ...well, I say, who needs research if you know it works for your child. There is a reason why homeopathy is not practiced by the VAST majority of MD's...there is just no concrete scientific evidence to explain HOW and WHY it works. And unfortunately, most MD's are too closed minded to think out of the box for even a minute and explore alternative medicines...there just isn't enough $$ in it for them. And I think that's what it all boils down to...where the big $$ is. SO sad... a **************The year's hottest artists on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards. Go to AOL Music.
