Hypoglycemia is often the precursor of diabetes, so take care of it now. I

had a lot of that when I first was ill, but it went away.

BJ,

Yes you can have hypoglycemia without having diabetes, but the

condition is very often a precursor to diabetes. It means that when

you eat food, your body produces too much insulin in response to the

food which actually lowers your blood sugar rather than raising it.

Eventually (over time), the body has produced too much insulin for

too long and the pancreas, which is overtaxed, goes belly up, that's

when you get diabetes.

The key to keeping blood sugar even is to eat smaller more frequent

meals and stay as far away from carbs as possible. Especially sugar

(some carbs is okay, just don't eat too many) this will encourage

your body to produce less insulin (eventually) which can break the

cycle and get you back to normal. Just remember that the more sugar,

carbs you eat and the higher amount of food you eat means more

insulin production which equals the crash of hypoglycemia. After you

crash you feel very hungry and crave sugars which starts the cyle all

over again. If you stop the madness now, you have a good chance of

saving the pancreas.

I suggest that you look up the glycemic index online. It will guide

you on low sugar, low glycemic carbs and food (low glycemic means

less insulin production). Also some good books are The Glucose

Revolution or Sugar Busters or Syndrome X.

Best wishes,

Ann

BJ, I have Severe Reactive Hypoglycemia. I've had it for years - way

before getting implants. But since getting implants my low sugar

feeling is higher than it used to be...I know that makes no sense -

it used to be that I would feel sweaty, irritated, shaky and dizzy

when my sugar was down around the 60's. Now I get like that in the

70's. Hypoglycemia is the opposite of Hyperglycemia which is

Diabetes. A doctor told me years ago that I would be more

susceptible to getting Type II Diabetes because of my hypoglycemia

but other doctors have said that isn't true. I only have symptoms

after I've eaten a huge amount of sugar or if I have pastas or rice

or a meal without a good amount of protein. It's easy to keep your

sugar pretty level if you eat right. I don't always eat right, but I

can tell you how you're supposed to!

Sounds like my 1st doctor was right?? It is the pre-curser to

diabetes? I really didn't think it was. That makes sense though -

if the pancreas puts out too much insulin now, it's possible that it

will run out later. I better start eating better. I can't imagine

having diabetes on top of everything else.
