Letter to secondary schools in England regarding HPV vaccinations

The Department of Health (DH) has announced the introduction of a human

papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation programme to help prevent cervical

cancer. HPV infection is common and causes 99 per cent of cervical cancer

cases.

The DCSF has sent a letter to all English secondary schools informing them

of this new vaccination programme, which is for 12-13-year-old girls, with

an extra initial catch-up programme for older girls.

The DH would like to use school premises to deliver the vaccinations and

the letter from the DCSF encourages schools to work with the DH on this

wherever possible.
