Guest guest
I would be upfront first off and tell the ped you won't be vaccinating and ask how they feel about it. You'll know by the response if this is someone you want to deal with. They'll expect you to come in for all the well-baby checks, which are basically vaccination visits so be prepared to face defending yourself each time. I actually had more problems with the nurses than the doctors. I have to be honest, I never interviewed any pediatricians, just went with recommendations from friends because first and foremost, I want a good diagostician. I rarely take their advice for the actual treatments. Good luck. Winnie How to interview a Ped.? Vaccinations > This week I have several interviews lined up for finding a > pediatrician. Guest guest
I only interviewed one ped before the one that I have now. I simply asked what her view on vaccines was and what her feeling would be if I wanted to selectively vaccinate/delay/not vax. My current ped held an " open evening " for parents to come in and ask questions. I was chicken and waited until someone else asked the question on vaccines. He basically said it was the parents' decision and he would support it. I have a 3.5 YO DS who has never been vaxed and I was never given any trouble about it. Guest guest
Well, poohey on that! We sat down and the doctor went right into his canned speech which included an affirmation that his practice adheres to the AAP vaccinations and thinks they have saved the world from annihilation. I did try to see if he would do delayed or selective just so I can get me and my baby discharged from the hospital but he kept shooting DH and I down. On to ped. # 2 tomorrow. We are interviewing sseveral because the majority of our friends with kids vaccinate and when in conversations we mention we question vaccinations we get blank stares :-( Not that I think I'm in any way enlightened but don't people read the news or watch the news? > > I only interviewed one ped before the one that I have now. Guest guest
Wait.... I'm confused... so you and your baby can be released from the hospital? Are you expecting a baby? If so, a ped is not what you need at this point (I'd question whether you need one at all, really). Your OB or Midwife can take care of the baby for the first six weeks, and most likely you can fill out all the necessary paperwork at the hospital in order to waive vaccinations at birth. Guest guest
Interesting, I'll have to inquire about that at my next drs. appt. I understood it as that in order for the hospital to release us, a ped. has to give a thumbs up within 12 hours of birth.....thanks for the tip! > > > > > > Well, poohey on that! Guest guest
Yes a dco needs to discharge you, but there are peds on call that can do that for you. My family doc did not have rights at the hospital I gave birth at so the kiddos saw the ped on call and he discharged both of them and then we went to our 2 week appointment with the family doc later. No big deal except they did question me several times about not giving the hep B shot and I just stood firm and made sure DH or I went with the babe every where so they couldn't " accidentally " give them the shot. > > > > > > > > > Well, poohey on that! Guest guest
Oh my gosh! That is exactly how I feel! We left our ped because since the first time we went there, he went into the whole intimidation tactics about vax's and that was that. And we would be dropped if we didn't conform to their practice. People think we are nuts about the whole non-vax thing and I totally agree that I think it IS brainwashing and they just don't take enough time to do research because the do what the doc's tell them and they can't break away from their million " reality " shows to join the real reality of their child's health and well being. > >Well, poohey on that! Guest guest
Keep in mind, (at least it's my understanding) that doctors have to have a certain percentage of clientele that vaccinate, or their med-mal insurance will drop them. I don't know that first hand, but I heard it somewhere along the way in my research. There may even be other " doctor police " that threaten their license if their ratios drop too low, not quite sure. Between the panic over that, plus being brainwashed, it's no wonder most docs (but not all) get so defensive about it. I've tried to find out what incentives there might be but there don't seem to be any Just brainwashing and 'how dare you question god' kind of thinking. In UK they get money for % of compliant but not in US If anyone has found out differently, for sure, email me the facts Sheri
Guest guest
Ah, okay... I wasn't completely sure; maybe it was someone from the UK that had mentioned that to me. Guest guest
Try Mothering Dot Commune http://mothering.com/discussions and go to Find Your Tribe. You can find a forum for your state/area. Ask about doctors. Recommendations are the best! I'm in a MOMS Club, and I found my amazing pediatrician through them. I'm the only one that I know of who doesn't vax (others select or delay) but I asked specifically for dr's who are " open-minded about vaccines " . I got two recommendations. Whenever anyone puts down " allopaths " I think of how fortunate I am to have a wonderful pediatrician who truly believes that parents are the best decision makers in their children's health. (I also think about my amazing pain management neurologist, who is now in Virginia. I miss him!) ~Robyn alamazurowski wrote: > > This week I have several interviews lined up for finding a > pediatrician.
