PEKIN, Ill.—A judge in central Illinois has sentenced a woman to more

than three decades in prison for killing her young autistic daughter.

McCarron was sentenced Tuesday to 36 years after being convicted in

January of first-degree murder. She had pleaded not guilty by reason of

insanity.

The 39-year-old former doctor suffocated her 3-year-old daughter, , in

2006.

She told police in a videotaped confession that she could no longer deal

with her daughter's illness.

She had testified she felt responsible for 's autism because she

allowed the child to get vaccinated. Some people believe autism is caused by

a preservative once used in vaccines.

She had faced as many as 100 years in prison. Prosecutors sought 45 years.
