don't do the vit k shot.

wait a couple weeks for your babies clotting system to

develope.

you should be able to have a jewish mohel do it for

you then when your baby is older - and a loved one

will be able to hold your baby while it is done if you

use a mohel

My kids all had the Vit. K shots but from what I'm hearing here, I would be

nervous about doing that again. You're really stuck between a rock and a hard

place. I think I would look into the oral Vit. K rather than injecting anything.

You said it so beautifully--under " normal " circumstances (and I believe normal

has a wide wide range!) we ARE born whole, intact and perfect! Our culture has

such problems trusting our own bodies, trusting ourselves...

I don't know that the eye goop is particularly dangerous (haven't researched

it), but at birth the baby's vision is such that it sees best at about the

distance from the mother's breast to her face... so if you administer eye

goop, it can make the baby's vision more limited that it already is and

therefore interfere with bonding in those early hours of breastfeeding.

That's why I choose not to do it... besides the fact that I believe God

makes us perfect and we don't, under normal circumstances, need any outside,

unnautral intervention. My first son didn't have any eye good and his eyes

were bright and clear from birth... never a problem with infection. I

remember the joy of having him look up at me like " Oh mama, that's what you

look like! " and loving every second of that time together!

A baby's body is smarter than we give it credit for.
