Jabs call after measles outbreak

Parents are being urged to have their children immunised after a measles

outbreak at a school in Cornwall.

Two pupils, aged six and seven, from St 's School, Camborne, have been

confirmed with the illness. There are another eight suspected cases locally.

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Primary Care Trust said the children were

at home and " recovering well " .

This is the first outbreak of measles in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

for at least five years.

Felicity Owen, director of Public Health for Cornwall and the Isles of

Scilly, said: " Measles is a very infectious bug.

" With the large number of cases in and around London, it's really only been

a matter of time before Cornwall had an outbreak.

" I'd appeal to any parents who have not yet had their children vaccinated to

get them protected as soon as possible.

" It's important to remember measles can be a very serious illness that can

leave permanent disability and even kill. "

Dr Guttridge, director of the South West Peninsula Health Protection

Unit, said: " All local schools and parents need to be aware that this

infection is back among us and we can do something to stop it spreading.

" MMR is the safest way to protect our children - exposing them to this

infection is not.

" The alleged link between MMR and autism has been disproved time and again

and the rising number of parents choosing MMR shows that confidence in the

vaccine is returning. "

Anyone interested in getting their child immunised with the MMR vaccine should

contact their GP.

Don't you just love how they over react? Instead of letting people get

the measles they prefer to inject them with poison.
