Guest guest
One thing: psychologists don't prescribe drugs; psychiatrists do. Psychologists usually will refer their clients to a psychiatrist to get a prescription if it's necessary. Psychiatrists have been through medical school, psychologists haven't; beyond that, I'm not sure of the ins and outs of how their academic training differs. There are many schools of thought in both fields. Psychiatrists, I believe, concentrate more on drug treatment, while psychologists generally do counseling. (They do many other things too, but in this context, that's the only important one.) -- one more thought Ok, this is my third post and last for today.... One more thing but in a different light -- if anyone hasn't seen 20/20 or Dateline, today's high school and college kids are using this as cocaine. Today's kids are paying those who use this prescription for this exact use -- they crush the pills and snort it like they would cocaine. Bottom line, anyone who takes any form of medication, should be under a supervised care of a doctor or psychologist. I've seen instances where adults use this and other forms of medication and never see their psychologist. They just go to the psychologist's office to get a renewal on the prescription without ever seeing the doctor. It seems these doctors don't even supervise the situation. And, if the adult decides he/she wants to have a few cocktails, they voluntarily think well I won't take my medication today because I want to go out drinking, not knowing the side affects or the consequence of doing such a thing. So what does that tell you? It's really an issue for the medical industry to supervise, nevermind, the legal consequences. That's it for my two sense today.
