Guest guest
I know what you mean....my mother-in-law has had silicone gel implants for a LONG time. After doing all the research I did for the brochure and reading all these statistics about rupture and migrating silicone, I wanted so badly to just take it all to her and make her read it. Every time someone brings my illness up and she is around, she'll change the subject really fast. She said she wasn't going to worry about something being wrong with hers unless she started having symptoms....the woman has terrible arthritis in her hands...she's 54 and had a stroke out of no where last year...I mean, HELLO?!!!!!! I don't know what to do about it. I try not to be insulted by the way she treats the subject, but sometimes it really gets to me....so frustrating!! From: " debsings04 " <debsings04@...> Reply- Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 23:09:39 -0000 Subject: what my PS said upon getting removed Dear saline girls, when I had my consult just prior to have implants removed my PS said that if I came to him and explained I wanted my implants out because they were making me sick or causing me health problems he wouldn't touch me with a ten feet pole. He said he wouldn't touch any patient that made those comments. Just the fact he said that I thought to myself this will be a never ending war. (between women and surgeons) I never questioned him. I didn't aruge. I knew it was pointless. I knew he was basically saying he didn't want a lawsuit. Like all the surgeons don't. So, when I saw him even though I knew they were affecting my health I just emphasized I didn't want them in because they were uncomfortable, which was true and I didn't like the size which was also true. I just never mentioned the fact they were making me ill, because I knew I would never convince him nor his staff. I personally didn't want to convince him of believing me. All I was concerned about was him doing the removal correctly. I could get my support and sympapthy from other places. I just needed his skill to take the darn things out. He like all surgeons, excuse the french have to " cover their ass " . Its true. I knew I would never convince him no matter how right I knew I was. All the girls in his office were like robots. You have to expect that though, because anybody will push what they believe in. It will take the office girls or his wife getting really sick for things to change. Doctors will always take evidence over what women say. What I wonder is if he will ever see the light. I say that because his wife has silicone, her 2nd pair. Lets see how she is 10 yrs down the road and what he thinks. It will affect her health someday at some point. Then what. It will be interesting. She was as nice and professional as could be. I just know its coming. I say this out of curiousity, because sometimes we just don't belive the truth until we experince it oursleves. Sorry for the sloppy writing. Guest guest
Hi Deb, The EXACT thing happened to me with my PS when asking for explant. I noticed all the womem in his office had implants (they are easy to easy to spot). They were all also like robots mouthing exactly what he had to say. I am soo tired of these AWFUL doctors. I also had a really AWFUL rhuematologist. When I mentioned breast implants he turned into a real # & *(hole. THey acted like I was making this up. I wish they were in my body for one day and then see what they think. I am trying to help a poor dear lady in my town that was having very bad health problems, anaoriexia (80 lbs, hair loss, extreme pain etc etc) We happened to be talking and she knew I had been sick and out of work and I mentioned to her about the implants causing my illness and low and behold she has had implants in for 33 years. She got them back in the sixties. Oh my God, she was soo shocked when I started telling her all of the implications. She didn't have a clue and all of her doctors have told her they couldn't possible be causing all her problems. Needless to say she is now going to have them out. Also hers are so old she can't even find the doctor or hospital where she had them put in. My heart goes out to her but I was soo happy to be able to help her. She doesn't even know how to use a computer so she can't go on line to this site. This is an epidemic and is only going to get worse. Guest guest
Hi, I also have a friend who has had implants in for about 17 years and she acts the same way. When I got really sick she thought it was all in my head and that really hurt our friendship. I tried to talk to her about getting her implants out and she said got very angry and said she didn't want me to ever bring it up again and that she would never get sick from them. Meanwhile she has had a very bad shoulder, back and swollen hands in the morning not to mention chronic sinus infection, migraine headaches and very bad chronic constipation. HELLO!!! She said she will go to the grave with her implants in. I hope to GOD that is not the case. What do you do in a situation like that??\ Love Judi
Guest guest
In response, all we can do is just inform people and they will either listen or blow it off. I didn't think too much about saline implants originally. Duh, or I would have never gotten them. So I too was like many women. I'm not angry at women that don't listen to what I have to say. We all have to live our own lives and we are resonsible for our choices. If they get sick then one day they will be ready to hear the truth. Until then, really you can't convince them. Its too bad, because there's so much at stake, but its like telling kids not to try drugs. We all live and learn.
