Guest guest
Vida, You are a good friend to show your concern. i have one rhetorical/sarcastic question... " who's baby is it " ? what does her husband have to say about the controlling parents?. I know it sounds harsh but they need to keep that baby away from the grandparents if want him to get better at least until they can learn to respect who is responsible for making the health/medical decisions for the child. Not respecting her right to make breastfeeding or medical decisions for her own child (and to mock her homeopathic choices) is insulting and disrespectful. That's why i ask what where does the husband stand in all of this. The first thing she needs to do is get a back bone in order to be able to (respectfully of course)_ stand up to her in-laws. my daughter was born 3wks early. she weighed 5.6 and is now 19lbs at barely 6mths. I know every baby is different but if you say something seems off then if probably is and this child needs to get away from allopaths. The raw milk formula idea is a great one if she can get her hands on the real stuff. i have been doing it for my daughter for several months along with breastmilk and she has thrived on it. There is no doubt the reflux drug is not helping and is the culprit. I hope she finds a way to speak up. My friend is a firm believer in homeopathy and natural cures, but both her husband's parents are pediatiricians and they just laugh in her face and demand proof that it works whenever she even brings up homeopathy. After first having her baby, who was only 5 lbs at birth, she had trouble breastfeeding, but after a month of struggling, the baby finally latched on. The baby was having some minor reflux problems though and her mom in law pretty much forced her to stop breast feeding and to put the baby on formula. My friend says she could not go against her wishes and stopped breastfeeding although she felt she was doing the wrong thing, she even was depressed for long time after that because of this. So, they switched this baby to formula and used a whole bunch of different kinds, since the pediatrician parents got so many free samples. Well, baby still had reflux so they put her on prevacid. Baby is now 8 months, still vomits, and is still on prevacid. This little baby is now almost 15lbs, which I guess is a good weight gain since she was born quite small. She seems so weak though, is not very active, is not even close to crawling, and just something seems off. I am trying to encourage her to try a raw milk formula since that has worked wonders for many babies who were previously on commercial formula. She is such a beautiful baby and I really worry for her. I told my friend that we do not vaccinate and I think she has some of the same opinions as I do, but am sure she will never bring that up with her parent in laws since they are know it all pediatricians. My question is, does anyone have any info on prevacid and is it harmful? I think any med is harmful, and plus, it is obviously not helping since the baby still has really bad reflux. Also, what are some ways to help with reflux? Thanks, Vida.
Guest guest
I work in early intervention and see so many babies on prevacid and other meds. People need to remember that all spit up is NOT reflux! Sometimes babies spit up and that's ok. It's only reflux if it is acidic and harmful to the esophagus. Even prevacid won't stop plain old spit up. I would second the thoughts of others - it's HER baby, not her in-laws' baby, and it's up to her to make these choices. Melinda C. in Mass.
