Guest guest
Hi Sheri (and all!), My husband is traveling to China in about two weeks for business ~ recently, his employer has made the suggestion that he receive the Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccine for his travels <sigh>; now, he’s fine with us not vaccinating our children, but this has sort of throw in a curve ball about his own needs for traveling abroad. I told him not to do anything until I could get some literature in front of him and for him to make an informed choice. He’s an intelligent man, knows that with everything, there are risks; including that of the vaccine itself; however he isn’t sure what to do. He’s been to China before, but I don’t remember if he got any vaccines back then (about 5 years ago); and I haven’t asked him yet, though I will. So, I’ve been perusing your sight Sheri and have found what I was looking for in terms of vaccine inserts, ingredients, VIS from the CDC etc. all of which is good, but not convincing in terms of shedding light on the real risks associated with injection such toxins into your system…somehow the CDC and the vaccine inserts (for Typhoid and Hepatitis A), just don’t seem that “scary”. I’m afraid he might say “well, seems to me the risks of vaccine danger don’t outweigh the benefits for potential protection against disease”…after all who wants Typhoid and/or Hepatitis A right? He knows that the vaccines are not 100% effective, and he also knows that the risk of getting the disease isn’t 100% either…(he’s an engineer by profession), so would like to see some concrete statistical figures for the actual occurrence rate for acquiring these two diseases in China. He’s not traveling to the outskirts of the country…I’m not exactly sure where he’ll be, but it’s not too far inside China from that of Hong Kong. I did read that the Hepatitis A vaccine should be given at least two weeks before “exposure”…he’s leaving in two weeks. And the Typhoid vaccine is recommended one month before “exposure”…again, he’s leaving in two weeks…you’d think that alone might dissuade him; and it just might (hopefully). I’m hoping that someone might be able to point me in the direction of finding such statistics for rate of disease occurrence in China for Hepatitis A and Typhoid ~ is there such a website? Any information or help would be appreciated. Again, this is voluntary and he’s not getting any pressure from his employer, but he’s not convinced that NOT getting the vaccines is the best answer either. Any information is entirely welcome! Thanks all, Chris
